hair and beard: pros and cons

i was rewatching kz vs poirier and as soon as kz opened poirier's head they started to talk how easier and faster a shaved head opens.

but a brazilian fighter once said he shaved his head to prevent submissions.

does it make any real difference? who's got the advantage?

speaking of hair: how much does the beard protect your face? is it why jones is growing one?

more important: should cyborg stop shaving?

i really don't think hair or facial hair affects a fight in anyway maybe other than protecting from cuts to the head from elbows or something

Look at Bendos hair. Would still probably take all of Team Alpha Male to get that guy in a choke.

Facial hair - no difference.

However back when I first started jujitsu a few years ago I had longer air. If I got put in a guillotine it would pull the **** out of it when I would pull my head out. I think I cut my hair a week later.

I remember Clay Guida fight with Takanori Gomi . Guida started to hair dance and Gomi could not find where the hell is the head of Guida. Gomi was kind of mesmerized and lost the game not to Guida but to his hair dancing.

That display was ridiculous. I swear Guida is in the wrong industry. He should be in a **** circus.
He starts out getting beat up for a living, and managing to hug people to decisions.
Then he evolves into a blend of a floor mop and a snake flute charmer.
Then he evolves into some kind of "elusive" fighter... except that for Guida being elusive means never actually engaging for the duration of the bout.

He used to work in a crab Boat in Alaska. Recently he has made a Sandwich named "Carpenter". So who knows , maybe one day he begins to work in a circus as a hair dancer or even in a heavy metal band as a pro head banger.!!!

Hair on head does help a little to cushion direct impact from a sharp object such as an elbow to cut but it's insignificant as far as the bludgenening effect and getting your brain scrambled inside your skull. It does absorb the flow of blood somewhat.

No hair does allow you to slip out of guillotine like chokes more easily because with hair there is more friction and it absorbs sweat. Facial hair can help a little with cutting but cuts on the jaw or chin are pretty rare and it's a much smaller surface area and it's easier to slide/roll impacts.

One advantage though is a does sort of hide your jaw/chin structure a little so if someone is good enough to accurately pin point shots to more vulnerable areas like coming across and through your chin for straights ( for that concussive/whiplash effect ) or targeting the the edge of the ramus section of your mandable with a hook trying to dislocate the jaw. In those cases having a thick beard could be beneficial there atleast a little.

You get hit on the chin/jaw hard it's not gonna matter that much anyway though and another thing is it's a disadvantage also in a way because unless your skin is the same color you've basically just painted a target on your whole jaw.
