Why people dislike Jon Jones

Have a friend that has been training MMA as well as me and he is always driving me nuts (on purpose im sure)
Anyway we are talking about the "champion" jon jones.

The thing that i dont understand is that this isnt a New thing. Its a champion that survives via a physical abberation just like many champions before him.

What we are talking about here is Reach. And yes that does make him a one-hit-pony. But so what?
Tim Silvia used the same thing, Semmy schiltch (in K-1) used the same method to a Great degree and so on.

What people seem to ignore is the fact that this isnt a new type of fighting style....

Who the {mod edit] will give a guy only using the fact that the lord almighty gave him an abnormal reach.

We love the guys that fight like crazy with the skills that their masters have taught them, those guys that prove that 4000 years of training is Awesome (!)

People hate him because of his reach? I thought it was because he is a drunk driver that had underaged girls in his car which he could have potentially killed with his antics. Or it could be his general lack of respect for anyone. How about his ducking a fight and canceling an entire card?

He is a drunk driver putting peoples well being at risk. Not even going to mention 151 cancellation, but the simple fact that he REFUSED A FIGHT against someone in a lower weightclass than him! Then, he got a fight against another fighter in a lower weightclass, to which he verbally tapped!

He is also cocky and arrogant, anyone can see it in his interviews.

Vitor and Chael were the only ones to step up on 8 days notice. Blame the drama queens in LHW for not having the stones to step up. While Jones could've definitely taken that fight against Chael, I don't really fault him for not doing as it was a pretty crappy situation forced on Jones because Dan Henderson kept his injury hidden despite injuring himself 3 weeks earlier. As far as I'm concerned, Dan Hendersons handling of reporting his injury is what cancelled 151.

If 151 is a slight against anyone, it's the entire LHW division for ducking the fight in general, with Chael, Vitor, and even Anderson Silva stepping up to save the card (this is why Chael is getting a title shot against Jones).

I love watching jones fight. One of the fighters I get exited for every time he fights. However hes super arrogant and a **** outside of the cage. I don't pay $55 dollars for how he acts though.

I don't believe for a second that every single LHW refused a title shot.

I think they did. We know for a fact Shogun refused it, and Machida said he needs more time. Henderson obviously was injured, and Gustaffson said he needs more time as well I believe....

I think he is disliked because of his success. There was once a time I wanted GSP and Anderson to get beat badly. I didn't know why. But as I matured, I realized it was because I did not like how dominant they were. I wanted to see a struggle, and a new champ.
I think the car wreck, underage girl and 151 debacle all stem from the initial hate, and fuel the fire.

First of all, Jones's reach is 5" larger than that of Sylvia and 2" larger than Schilt's reach.
And those guys fight at HW, where there is plenty of huge guys. Jones fights at a weightclass where his reach advantage is typically around 10".

But here's the crucial thing:
Let's take a guy like Sylvia - he's got a large reach (although still smaler than Jones'), but he's also very tall and big, WHICH makes him slow. So with one advantage comes a disadvantage to balance things out.
Look at Struve - he's got the same reach as Jones, but being 6'11" he's soooooo slow. He can't really fill his frame to be super muscular like Lesnars and Carwins, because he would exceed the 265lbs limit by too much. But even if he did - this would be even more to his disadvantage, because that would only make him even slower.
With one advantage comes a disadvantage.

Now look at Jones: He's 6'4" - that's a perfect height for both LHW and HW. He's got a lot of upper body muscle and so a lot of needed strength and his center of gravity is in the right place. He's not too tall. Because of that he can be as quick as any other fighter in LHW.
But then you add his ridiculous reach - 85" which is larger than that of any fighter in the division above, let alone his division.
Jones' has all the advantages in the world without any disadvantages. Nothing to even things out.

We organize sports with weight divisions to even things out, but Jones' body characteristics disregard that.

it doesnt matter that hes cocky or crashed a car drunk or whatever. people dont really care. it gets brought up and used against him because people already dont like him in the first place, on account of hes a doosh

I dislike him because he is a Zuffa robot, he has this clean cut image that is fake, he is just trying to be like GSP but the fakeness shines through whereas GSP is genuinely a good honest guy

I just dislike his personality. He's a very good fighter though and sure he uses his reach, so what so does Struve. The whole he has an unfair advantage or he's only good because of his reach argument is just sour grapes.

People hate him because our society is used to hatred and conformity. No one says anything original or new about him. It's thousands of people repeating what they heard from others to try to bring him down (he's cocky, he got a DUI, he contributed to a card being canceled, blah blah blah).

It's not anything more than blind hatred of someone they don't even know, and it's more of a product of the problem in people's own personal lives to hate someone they don't even know than anything that he's personally done wrong. Not one person who hates him could say they are perfect and they have the right to judge, and not one person who hates him has accomplished even 1% of what he has in fighting.

People will find any reason they can to hate. If it wasn't this stuff, they'd be insulting a loss in his fight career. Since they can't find that, they repeat the same things over and over until it is nauseating.

Bottom line, and this is the last thing I'll ever say about this is this....We are watching the guy FIGHT, we're not going to date him SO WHO CARES IF YOU DON'T LIKE HIS PERSONALITY

and for the record, i agree i think those things dont matter and people bringing it up all the time is lame (unless its framed in a good joke haah)

and also for the record i dont like how he fights and i dont think the wins equal the hype

I agree 100% that reach is a huge factor,however the weight cutting is what allows it to work.
If you take these 6'2 guys and really make them walk in the ring at 170 lbs,they are going to be so skinny and weak,a kid off the street would toss them around.However if you allow to CHEAT the system and walk in the ring around 188/192.that allows them to maintain reach and size advantage.

Once you begin to cheat ANY system,it ruins the legit aspects of it.I can only imagine who the real champions would be if there was no cheating in this sport.Oh and yes the roids or i mean TRT "therapy" also adds a lot to the equation.Those skinny limbs would be very sore and not able to recover to train everyday.

Jones is athletic and no i do not hate him,i actually like Jones as a fighter,he is imo the BEST out there.However make him really fight at 205 and make sure his trt is NOT over 2:1 and you would see a huge difference.
It is more about hating the system and the cheating ,than any hate for Jones.

Because people hate success and are bitter that he stomped their favorite fighters. Of course they refuse to admit they're simply butthurt and pretend his personality is what bugs them.

They are so butthurt that they're willing to overlook the fact that the division also contains an old guy who is OBVIOUSLY on steroids and has ducked multiple fights and another fighter who has literally KILLED an unborn child. Those are the guys they'll root for to beat Jones; that is exactly how sore their butt is.

Clearly Jones is only hurting not only the UFC as a sport, as well as his image, but the image of African Americans trying to overcome adversities in America.
