Anderson Silva - black belt Anthony Pettis - black belt
Did sensei Seagal claim he taught the showtime kick to Pettis? And the cartwheel kick :> It looked like it came from Capoeira. And btw - Anderson Silva has a Yellow Rope in Capoeira.
There is more people now using different kicks than before, I agree with that part. As a taekwondo practitioner myself I like this development. Always fun to see flashy kicks ;)
Benson has a TKD background as well if I recall correctly. Most the kicks don't do a ton of damage but when a TKD specialist uses it with throwing muay thai style kicks, it's lightning fast
"America is all about speed. hot, nasty, bad a** speed"-Eleanor Roosevelt
This is the "everything era." Tae Kwon Do, an art form previously thought of as worthless in comparison to the basic four (boxing, muay thai, wrestling, BJJ), is getting its due. I wouldn't say it's the root form of any fighter, but TKD techniques are starting to show up as compliments to a fighter's basic skill set.
Pure TKD is a very poor match against other pure arts (mainly the grappling type), but we haven't seen true style versus style in 15 years or more.
TKD does seem to be gaining abit more popularity in mma, but pure TKD suffers versus Mauy Thai because muay Thai employ a clintch game with knees and elbows,
when serkan took on ludwig in K1, ludwig managed to win by employing the clinch and serkan is an amazing TKD master. TKD on its own wont cut it in MMA without taking on other martial arts to complement the kicks.

LOL when has Silva throw a TKD style kick? He has a black belt doesn't mean he uses it, he always give credit to muay thai never TKD.
lol what are you talking about man one of his most famous ko is from a tkd/karate style front kick in the face
he also uses the half step side kick to the knee (which should absolutely be banned from mma) and ive seen him training his spinhook and its proper, even though he hasnt pulled it out in a fight yet
the "showtime" kick off the cage is actually quite easy, we call it touch-roundhouse at my school and its a regular part of my classes, kids like doing it, its fun. that cartwheel thing he did isnt actually in tkd as far as i know, thats the first time ive ever seen it and it was BADASS, will be injuring myself attempting it in the very near future. looked like a capoeira kick to me
if you want to see a guy who uses quite a bit of tkd when he fights, watch john makdessi
im an idiot for thinking gsp would finish the p4p GOAT nick diaz within 5 rounds

um no the front kick isn't necessarily TKD-especially if it's true that Seagal helped him alter it. You don't need to do TKD or karate to learn the front kick. Jones uses the front kick and side kick as well doesn't mean he came from TKD or karate. Guys are just taking out a few techniques that work out of those traditional striking styles. Doesn't mean it's the era of TKD. Plus JKD also has the side kick and front kick-and seeing how Anderson is a big Bruce lee fan he could of had learnt it from that.
Does it mean it's the era of JKD?

It's the MMA era and honestly I think a few more of the high level judo practitioners will raise up but can't see any boring straight tkd like makadessi going far cruickshank is a bit better as he has a lot more tools in his arsenal and yeah Anderson silva uses his muay Thai the most.
(x.X)Q(^.^Q) p4p ....... Weidman is a can......and Pettis will get sodomized by Aldo
What's worst a Frankie Edgar signature tantrum or the amount of butthurt this sig makes for his fanboys?
