Stann: We’ll both need plastic surgery if it goes 5 rounds

Brian Stann (12-5) and Wanderlei Silva (34-12) are set to collide in the main event of UFC on Fuel 8 in Japan this weekend. Both fighters are known for their power punching and crowd-pleasing, ’brawler’ style. While he’s fit enough to go five rounds with “The Axe Murderer,” Stann told MMA Fighting he doesn’t expect it to go past three – and that’s probably for the best.

“I suspect it will be the Wanderlei we’ve seen in recent years, where he’s a little bit more retreating in the first round, comes forward in the second round, looking to counterpunch with the big right hand. Regardless, I’m going to set the pace right away, I’m going to be aggressive for five rounds. If it goes five rounds, we’re both going to need plastic surgery. I suspect it will go no more than three and somebody’s going to be unconscious at the end of this fight … I’m very comfortable going five rounds, I’ll just look like a completely different person if I go five rounds with Wanderlei. So will he.”

I would laugh my **** off if Wanderlei takes him down and submits him, everyone including me is expecting a brawl this could be the perfect strategy for him to win. I still think Wand is the better striker and can win standing if he does (which he will) decide to strike.

I think Stann is gonna KO him, but I can see Wandy winning, but it's unlikely.

It sure looks like a barn burner on paper but maybe not.I noticed in the Cung Le fight Wandy was laying back trying t oconserve energy ,until he though Le was tired ,then he moved in.I am not so sure Stann will commit early either,so it might be a couple rounds of boredom to start the fight.
If Stann was smart he would just grapple Wandy down.I know he has little skill anywhere and it would be a boring ground game by Stann but it would play into his favor,both wearing down Wandy and safe from Wandy strikes.I beleive that if Stann has any cardio at all,he will easily KO Wandy,who imo has been washed up for awhile now.

wand is best off taking it to the ground. wand keeps every fight standing...it'd be nice to see him use the ground and there'd be no better fight than this to do it

Exactly how I feel man he has a huge grappling advantage if he wanted the safest way to win this would be it.. one thing about Wand tho is he never fights safe and with the fight happening in Japan he might be too concerned with giving them Pride Wanderlei to think about the takedown which could cost him, however I feel he can still beat Stann striking aswell if like I keep saying he is smart and picks his shots.
