Kelvin Gastelum gets new opponent in Brian Melancon

Should be a good fight. Definitely not the same name recognition as Paulo Thiago but Melancon destroyed Baczynski in his last fight (a guy who beat the immortal Matt Brown btw).

Both are short stocky dudes who have crazy power, but I think Kelvin's wrestling will most likely get him the victory here.

Thoughts?

Brian is from around were I was born. I never thought he'd be in the UFC. It's really b/c of the SF merger only. I didn't think he'd destroy Seth Baczynski like that and this is huge stepping in for Paulo Thiago. If he wins this, it will get him noticed big time.

I am still surprised he can make 170,he is arguably the biggest 170 ,even heavier than Hendrick's.He is one of those fighters that nobody at 170 will want to face.Reason is not many consider him a top dog,so if you lose to him,you really drop down in the ranks, and losing to him is quite possible.Thiago would lose and definitely is avoiding him.

I actually really like this fight. They both kinda remind me of each other. Big and stocky with solid power. Melancon looked good in his last fight. Seems like Kelvin might be better on the ground and wrestling but I haven't seen much of Melacon's grappling or takedowns

    Great Match up!

Melancon won me over with that awesome debut he had, but Kelvin has the better grappling and that will probably be the difference in this one.

Good match up. Melancon has some of the better pure boxing I've seen in MMA. I'm not sold on Castelllum yet frankly but I can see an interesting clash of styles.

I like this more. Paulo Thiago's name looks like a good match up next to Kelvin, but in Paulo's actual fights with wrestlers I can't say Im all that blown away.

I honestly don't even care who they match Kelvin up with.

I want to see how he performs at WW and outside of TuF competition.

For me it's interesting to see how TuF fighters do once they are out of that environment.

Agree. I think Kelvin is they type to do all the right things in terms of training hard and dieting. He doesn't seem like a wild party animal who is going to go out all the time.

I expect him to be in great shape and have better technique since the Hall fight.

Melancon has a big challenge on his hands.

Melancon has a br0000000tal left hook.

If KelGOAT can avoid it he should win.

Kelvin should win. KO"ing Baczynski was sick but as big a deal as a lot of people seem to think.

i guess i'm the only one who prefer Melancon over Paulo.

good, i'm hoping Melancon can work on his back.

Of course I'd prefer Thiago. but I mean there's nothing we can do about it.

soon as Dana F White starts talking bout "less injuries in 2013", now people start getting hurt right and left.

I dunno he just didn't seem like the wild type on TUF. He was incredibly focused and mature.

I'm not saying he will never touch a beer or go to a club, but it's really hard for me to picture him neglecting his diet or not training 110%. I fully believe he is championship material.
