CONTRACTS AND BORING FIGHTS- two problems one solution

Bonus Types for each fight:

Win bonus/Loss Penalty- drives up base pay by 25% for NEXT fight or decreases your base pay by 25% for NEXT fight. (negotiable)

Finish bonus- doubles base pay. (Non negotiable)

Excitement bonus- for ALL fighters, based on level of excitement/activity. This would help reward fighters who lose but put on an exciting fight. This would also discourage "lay and pray" strategy which I would guess turns away more viewers than anything else.

0-10 scale for each fight, fans vote. 1= 5% bonus.....10=50% bonus (from base)

Sample pay structure for last four Rory McDonald fights: (starting with a $25,000 base)

Vs Mike Pyle
$25,000 base
$25,000 finish bonus
35% bonus of $8,750 for excitement level 7
Total Pay= $58,750

Vs Che Mills
$31,250 base (25,000 x 1.25)
$31,250 finish bonus
40% bonus of $12,500 for excitement level 8
Total Pay= $75,000

Vs BJ Penn
$39,063 base (31,250 x 1.25)
$0 finish bonus
30% bonus of $11,719 for excitement level 6
Total Pay= $50,782

Vs Jake Ellenberger
$48,829 base (39,063 x 1.25)
$0 finish bonus
5% bonus of $2,441 for excitement level of 1
Total pay= $51,270

Definitely needs more work, but I think this format could help the UFC put on more exciting fights, and would be more representative on a fight by fight basis. This would reward young prospects for putting on a good show. Well renowned fighters would have a higher base pay, but would miss out on a lot of potential bonus money by fighting "not to lose".
