Gsp needs to break that snappy kick style. Both his shoulders and hips dont rotate over at impact, they just stop. The power in thai kicks are from rotating past your opponent, to the point of trying to swing yourself around.

As far as his posture, he is way too high for throwing just body kicks. His weight should be down and only a slight lift on his front for pivoting around. High kicks I could understand for the reach. Low kicks you actually want to bend more on the planted knee to get more torque into the kick.

Even George's push kicks are snappy. Guys his size should be able to knock jwp around with teeps

All in all it would take a lot more then two weeks for jwp to correct the errors

Completely agree it would be a mistake to try to change too much too soon especially against a southpaw who can wrestle with dynamite ko power.

One thing i will say about George and how that snappy style might benefit him is it's similar to Gracie's old school syle of back leaning side stance with upright posture and throwing side kicks to bait someone to punch then they'd duck off center or come straight in close the distance and clinch them up.

Bascially it invites the opponent to counter high and people tend to reach so he just level changes/slips right under their center of gravity and with his hip power and closing speed he mows them down like it's nothing. Only difference is George doesn't lean back & sidekick like Royce. He keeps his hands up chin down torso upright but slightly forward and he uses the jab, superman punches and snappy kicks to keep people at bay until they get frustrated and try to over commit deep to take his head off and he's already level changing/slipping & mowing them down as soon as they even think about starting to commit with forward pressure.

I think it helps him corral his opponents and get them to fight more linear in/out which helps his takedown game. Condit wasn't having that and used his bicycle to try to fight him circular and look for angles and he gave George some problems doing that by staying out of range and off center.

GSP has good kicks still, it's just that he doesn't throw them with bad intention anymore. More like he throws kicks just to keep his opponent at a distance or just to land them really.

His leg kick against Matt Hughes for example you can see he was trying to land that, compared to when he head kicked Shields and just stared at him, he looked surprised he landed it. GSP should just go back to throwing those big leg kicks and looking to KO ppl with them.

I think he can do it to Hendricks and at least rock him a bit. He just needs the confidence to do it

What gsp needs to understand the difference in snappy to power kicks. If he can switch those up to confuse his opponents he would get more ko's. Problem is breaking the habits in snappy kicks to power kicks

You forget GSP is not trying to do damage. LOL

    By the way, good analysis.

thats a good analysis, whats your background?

i think gsp likes to stay square at the expense of really committing to a kick. his inside leg kick has the most mustard on it because he can throw it without pivoting too much. everyone remembers the kos fight as a jab fest, but he lit up that inside leg severely as well

against diaz he came out and threw a vicious leg kick in the opening exchange and never did it again lol. i would def like to see more of that from him, he has those tree trunk legs, bendo is a good comparable fighter who uses his rear leg effectively and still maintains a strong grappling/TD gamer

I'm actually pretty stunned with the level headedness regarding GSP in this thread. That's an extremely rare thing in this forum lol. Thanks for the read guys.

4yrs - black belt in tkd as a kid. 5 plus in bjj and currently running 2 plus years of full time muay thai

Problem with gsp, and the majority of mma fighters, is there so heavy on there feet. They do that mostly for shooting for takedowns. Problem with being foot heavy is firing off kicks with both power and speed without it being telegraphic. Especially with the lead leg it stops guys from using the lead teep as defensive weapon to a charging foe. So many fighters want the anderson silva snap kick ko but that driving teep is killer too

    gunslinger is a can

Matt Brown trains with better strikers

Either actually provide said proof of "better" strikers then jwp or im considering this trolling and you can relax for a week long ban
