I'm talking about bj penn moving to feather.

thinking that in his last fights he's been fighting WelterWeights!

and not taking fighters into consideration who fought once in a weight class cause they had to fill in on short notice..

i realized it when i came across an old trailer(the best trailer ever imo) of a fight that was about to happen, and i thought: Wow, now he's fighting frankie at 145!

Is this the most radical drop down ever?

Not really, hes always been a chubby WW. Even at LW hes had quite a bit of body fat. He should be able to easily make FW with the right diet and hardwork

He's always been small for every weight division he's been in. It's time for him to be big.

sure he has but still he drops down 2 weight classes and doesnt even want a warm up fight but right away fights a top 5 guy who he has lost to twice! thats insane!

The only thing is that his focus always seems to be in question, even when he fought in the divisions where he was allowed to be a little heavy for his body type and have a bit of fat. Now that he's going to have to work harder to make the 145 lb mark, I'm wondering if it's going to be a big issue for him.

And someone post that pic of fat BJ eating please. It gets me every time.

In all seriousness, you guys think BJ is capable of putting the time in the gym and sticking to a good diet in order to make 145? Would love to see it, but I'm not sold.

What's radical about a LW going down to FW, which only takes 10lbs?

Would it be radical for Dan Henderson go down to MW only because fought at HW?
Chael Sonnen also fought at HW and will now drop to MW, so?

Was it radical for Machida to drop to MW as he had fought at HW before?

    Nonsense thread.

any time Rumble fought at WW was more radical than BJ's drop here. but still I think it's pretty radical.

Ahhhh this is the oft out of shape BJ we're talking about here, so yeah, it'd be pretty radical if he showed up at 145 looking lean and mean.

Agreed that Rumble was way crazier or James Irvin dropping to MW. I don't know why BJ dropping to 145 is that big of a deal. If he diets right then he will weigh 155 to begin with and only have to cut 10 pounds.

People thought Florian at FW was radical.

Penn is only an inch shorter & has a much larger frame, so yes, it's radical.

There are a few worse examples, though.

Tbh, I kinda think Penn is planning on coming in over weight & expecting Frankie to accept the fight anyway.

    I don't think so

GSP's drop down to WW is the most extreme in my opinion
The Cal Ripken Of GSP hatin'
    Arch Bishop Of Anti-GSP
    The Stockton Hater

Well if he worked harder and trained harder ,he would be heavier with more muscle mass.Yes a lean low cal diet could help keep the weight don,but don't confuse these guys for ANY weight, they are all cutting weight.I believe it goes hand in hand with your height,iy yo ugo for a decent powerful build you are not making 170 if 6' or more.,you would be weak and skinny.

Penn got by in the past because SKILL was no where to be found, very few had skills and not many were playing the weight cutting game like they do now.Well before the UFC there was no need to cut weight, everyone fought together under one roof, that is when the sport was really interesting.

If they lost the weight cutting cheats,Penn could possibly make a return to the top but for now it is a power game, strength guys are rising to the top and with little skill.

I think last poster might be correct,i could see Penn come in overweight and take the penalty of 20% or to save face ,a magical injury might arise.
    Gina Miesha Kyra ...yes please.

Didn't Joe Riggs start at 265? Also BJ fought Machida at HW so that's technically an even bigger drop
