wow, had no idea they were so close

i don't really understand how anyone would buy a boxing PPV...to me MMA is just a million times better because you are allowed to use every aspect of fighting and boxing is just saying you have to only use your hands the whole fight

either way, i think the trend is that boxing is on the way down and mma is on the way up. there's still a market for boxing, but people like myself have transitioned to UFC...also UFC has more consistent PPV buys month over month and boxing is able to max out a little more

realistically those were just the UFC's top 16 PPV buyrates while they were virtually all of boxings PPV's. I actually prefer boxings event model though. Ton of free shows to build up their stars, a few big shows 3-4 stacked/superfight PPV shows a year. UFC sort of started out this way and and are getting more and more watered down now.

actually that's a really good point...i think i'd enjoy that model way more and UFC would start to feel like a huge event again instead of just a monthly put together whatever they can just to keep generating money

wow, had no idea they were so close

i don't really understand how anyone would buy a boxing PPV...to me MMA is just a million times better because you are allowed to use every aspect of fighting and boxing is just saying you have to only use your hands the whole fight

either way, i think the trend is that boxing is on the way down and mma is on the way up. there's still a market for boxing, but people like myself have transitioned to UFC...also UFC has more consistent PPV buys month over month and boxing is able to max out a little more
realistically those were just the UFC's top 16 PPV buyrates while they were virtually all of boxings PPV's. I actually prefer boxings event model though. Ton of free shows to build up their stars, a few big shows 3-4 stacked/superfight PPV shows a year. UFC sort of started out this way and and are getting more and more watered down now.
Amazing to see that there isn't a single HW boxing PPV in these years.

actually that's a really good point...i think i'd enjoy that model way more and UFC would start to feel like a huge event again instead of just a monthly put together whatever they can just to keep generating money
yeah just thought i'd break it to you easier before classicboxer goes all

ufc has good fights every month, boxing once every 2 years, so boxing biggest ppv numbers for one event may be higher but overall ufc has more total ppv buys

My asian friend on twitter provided me those numbers. You want to dispute that, you take it up with Tao.

The problem with PPV buys is that it is that there are no definitive numbers on UFC events. While these are the accepted reported numbers here is no way to verify them.

Let's say that this is true and that boxing and MMA are equal draws. I can believe it

At 168 there were 22 fighter's sharing $2 million of purse money.

In Pacman's last fight 2 boxers shared $22 million of purse money

That is the most interesting part of comparing boxing to MMA.

There is absolutely no way in hell that 168 gets 4 million buys. I'd be surprised if it cracks 1 mil to be honest. The PPV market just isn't what it used to be anymore, and the UFC is actually LESS popular than it was in 2009 when UFC 100 got 1.6 million buys. Plus, that card was absolutely stacked with big names. Lesnar and St-Pierre on the same card is insane. Plus the Hendo/Bisping feud had been simmering on TUF for six months. Besides Weidman/Silva, and to a lesser extent Rousey/Tate, UFC 168 didn't have the big name power that UFC 100 did.
    Favorite fighters:

    HW: Lesnar, Schaub, dos Santos
    LHW: Gustafsson, OSP
    MW: Weidman, Jacare, Mousasi
    WW: Hendricks, MacDonald, Ellenberger, Thatch
    LW: Cowboy, Khabib
    FW: McGregor, Poirier
    BW: McDonald
    FLW: Dodson, Bagautinov
    Women: Aleksandra "Stitch" Albu, PaigePage

    Predictions Tournament 8 Champion
