I was really tempted to add shields dude but decided to go for guys who had done most of there work in the UFC otherwise list would have been ridiculously hard to pick .

Honourable mentions to Shields,Maia,Souza,Rickson,Fedor and Nogueria they would have made any other list

    LOLWUT?
How many BJJ black belts did he submit in the MMA? He sure beat Art Jimmerson who tapped out to being mounted hahahaha.
How good were his takedowns against elite wrestlers? How good was his gaurd against vicious GnP specialists?

You sir are silly and your thread stinks.

You cant have a list of best grapplers without Gracie if it wasn't for him the development of grappling in mma wouldn't have been anywhere near quick it was because of him fighters had to get good at jit jitsu.

But please if you feel he wasn't an essential part of grappling in the ufc I think its you who is the ****

But one has nothing to do with the other!
Make up your mind wheter we are talking about best grapplers or essential fighters.

You could've sent Pat Barry into the past and he would've tapped everybody out because of his knowledge of BJJ and wrestling. But that doesn't make him the best grappler ever. Dude, use your brain for a second. He'd be tapping them Arts Jimmersons all night long like crazy.

How can you have Gracie about Hughes when Hughes dominated him on the ground? I know he was out of prime but whether he was a pioneer or not, Gracie is not No. 1

If you are basing on track record then how do you not include Hughes? He has more MMA submissions than 4 of the people on your list and has a better career than all of them.

By track records its their calibre of grappling. If we go by just wins then Nog and Babalu would be two of the tops.

woah, and when has wrestling stopped being grappling?

1.Big Nog - looked like a clueless child against Fedor on the ground, got submitted by Mir
Both would get smashed (as in outgrappled) by Lesnar on the floor, Mir actually has.
2.Werdum - great subs and guard, but poor takedowns. You don't call a guy who has to lay on his back and pray to his opponent to get down on him the best grappler. The best grappler takes his opponents down when he wants to.
3.Jacare - I haven't seen him grapple with an elite wrestler
4.Maia - got tooled by Shields on the ground. Has had 1 sub win since 2009, even though he fought many cans in that time.

Great BJJ practitioners, poor grapplers. Would get outwrestled and couldn't take anybody down, let alone submit a legit grappler.

There's a reason why you didn't put Roger Gracie in there hahahha. He got a reality check.
Marcelo Garcia had this reality check as well in an MMA fight, which you seem to forget. His grappling was worth ****.

This list i mentioned was for grapplers not mma and under the idea of no time limits submission only. None of them were poor grapplers and they can always pull guard to engage if need be they don't need outstanding takedown skills.

Prime Helio might not submit elite level grapplers but he can go 4 hours and survive. His defense and technical ability for his size a lack of physicality he deserves to be on a p4p list.

Prime Rickson can pretty much submit anyone. He's submitted elite world class grapplers he rolled with even when he was much older. He humbled the hell out of all of them to the point they didn't believe a person could toy with them like that.

Rolls was even better than Rickson and was one of the first to seriously cross train in judo, wrestling and sambo along with his bjj.

Carlson was a pioneer and had more experience than just about anyone. He trained so many greats and there are many stories of him mopping the floor with very talented students who are today legends even when he was much older. He held his own with bigger talented vale tudo fighters some of them undefeated in over 200 fights and were probably so ahead of their time they'd be great fighters even today.

Marcelo i added because of his incredible style. Sure he's been submitted by some greats like Roger and Drysdale but the guy goes after it like no other and he's very small and still gives much bigger grapplers all sorts of trouble.
