  1. What about JDS in place of Woodley, so it's JDS vs. Lawler at UFC Mpls and whenever Woodley's hand heals, we'll get Woodley vs. Ngannou. I fail to see the downside of this plan.

    Did Andrade Tap Out ?

No, it was a very close attempt but never at the edge of a tap. Honestly, I find more people repeating the narrative that Andrade "smashed" Rose (in fighting, not the tribbing way). They ignore the fact that Andrade was clearly getting outclassed and was losing badly up until that point. The first round, with the new criteria, could've been scored a 10-8 by some judges. That said, it was one of the best slam KOs I've ever seen, right there with Rampage over Arona. It's also one of the best come-from-behind victories, especially in a title fight. On a side topic, I wonder how Andrade would do in a rematch with Joanna. It doesn't seem like Andrade's striking defense has improved much at all, and Rose was able to punch her in the face at will. I could see a Joanna rematch going much the same way as their first fight. As much as I'd like to see another slam KO, let's not pretend that Andrade has magical muff slamming powers all of a sudden.

Santos Has a Game Plan to Beat Jones (LOL)

I would laugh so hard if that happened. Anything is possible I suppose, even if highly improbable. Jon will frequently start a little slow, feeling his opponent out and taking a bit of time to gauge distance and whatnot (unless his opponent rushes in like Chael did). Anyway, it's within the realm of possibility for Santos to just wade right in and connect with an overhand to the chin.

I'm not the biggest fan of the reddit platform, but on fight nights, I appreciate those folks very much. Thanks for letting me see the once-feared BJ Penn kick off the prelims.

    USADA update

This is yet another reason why having a collective bargaining agreement in place would be a good thing for fighters. Any disciplinary action, including suspensions suggested by USADA (remember, USADA is just a contractor) would have to be for "just cause". I'm a union nerd, so I understand that term might be lost on a lot of folks who aren't labor dorks like yours truly. However, that would mean that all actions would be subject to internal appeal, and if unsuccessful, would be decided by a neutral arbitrator. In cases of doping suspensions, you could have language where a hearing needed to take place within six months of the assessment of the penalty, unless the parties mutually agreed to extend. The arbitrator would decide whether or not the rule was reasonable, whether or not the fighter knew or should have know of the rule and the consequences, whether the rule & punishment was fairly and equally applied, whether the evidence was sufficient, and whether or not the penalty was reasonable in light of all mitigating circumstances. Basically, it would be an expedited process of what Josh Barnett went through... unfortunately it took him two years. Of course nothing is perfect. Imagine if a fighter gets a two year suspension, but an arbitrator reduces it to six months. That's with the organization. However, let's say the NSAC still sticks by its own two year suspension and refuses to budge. After all, they're an agency given authority by state statute and aren't subject to whatever a CBA says. That could still be a sticking point. However, I gotta say I'm looking forward to the time when one state refuses to abide by another's suspension. The NSAC is difficult because the UFC is headquartered there, but let's say the NYSAC issued a two year suspension despite the reduction the fighter received. A year later, the fighter is licensed to fight in Nevada despite the NY suspension technically being good for another year. It would be an interesting circus.

    USADA update

Even though I'm not the biggest Luke Thomas fan in the world, I agreed with him when he declared "You cannot be both pro-fighter and pro-USADA." Like he says, you CAN be for anti-doping and pro-fighter, but you cannot support an organization where the fighters had no input and still be pro-fighter. USADA uses bully tactics at times (that seems to have fallen away for the most part), doesn't have their science in check, and doesn't treat fighters equally. Also, there's no humility in the organization for when they screw up and get something wrong. Where is Josh Barnett's apology? What about Tom Lawler?

    All Things Bellator Thread

Waitaminute... do you mean there's a streaming service... like something people actually pay for? I mean, with real money that they've earned, not just vicariously though advertising revenue? That doesn't sound real to me.

  13. You just described me. This is why, in addition to a complete lack of talent and ability, I do not play professional sports.
  14. Wow. I really like Roxanne and it sucks she almost got robbed. Since when is a clear 30-27 or even a 30-26 (under new criteria) a 29-28x2, 28-29 split? Oh, all the time, that's when.
  15. I think she's beautiful.

    Is Dan Ige ****ing retarded?!

Given that USADA goons have shown up and demanded samples all while adamantly refusing to provide identification in the past, this story is plausible. However, one would think that this dude could tell the difference between a USADA goon and some yokel working for the county's probation office. Or, maybe not. On another note, I wonder if USADA would've changed their tactics had Tim Kennedy shot a couple of their goons. Imagine this - breaking news, Tim Kennedy blows the faces off two USADA employees doing a surprise test. The state brings charges before a grand jury but they decline to indict, citing self-defense and defense of dwelling. As much as it sucks, that might be what's required to get them to act differently.

Theory about why UFC 238 is so awful.

The theory does make sense. The only thing counteracting it is all the other crappy PPV cards the UFC has put on over the past year or so.

I don't know if I would consider anything by Coolio as a "dope song", especially when some pretty white boy is coming out to it. Now, the Weird Al "Amish Paradise" parody on the ther hand...
