Have you been in a fight?

Recommended Posts

There are many different people who loiter this forum, from teenage kids to self righteous guys in their twenties, to 30+ year olds sitting on their high horse looking down at everyone. But I'm thinking it's safe to assume that the majority of people have been in a fight of some sort, to be as interested and to relate to the sport of MMA the way that we do.

I don't necessarily mean street fights either, but sanctioned competition or even testing your skills against somebody in your respective styles. So lets share stories of some fights you have been in, and if you haven't, that's ok, tell us why you like the sport of MMA.

DISCLAIMER: I am not encouraging getting into fights at all, it's dangerous and serious harm can be inflicted upon yourself, others, or both!

Lol at the disclaimer.:D

Last yime I got into a real fight was the 5th grade, against some unstable psychopath. Kid was bipolar. Throughout the duration of the 5th grade, he attacked me 5 times. I beat him up, each time.

In competition, I've been doing Tang Soo Do. We've been practicing for an upcoming tournament, so I've been sparring a lot. Since not a lot of white belts, (which I am,) participate, I've had to spar with some of the higher level belts. And I've been getting my *** kicked.:o

I love sparring with guys better then me, it makes me really push to try and get them, and i notice the best improvements physically when constantly trying to outperform them. It's also so much sweeter on the brief moments when you get the better of them :D

It is fun. Challenging, but fun. As for the "physical improvements," I've had none. All I've gotten out of sparring black belts is one broken toe, a sprained toe, and a pair of ****ed up legs. It's fun seeing the look on my Mom's face every Monday when I come in limping, supported by my Dad.:D

really? how long have you been doing it? I notice I move a little smoother, and more relaxed the more i spar, also I push myself so I am constantly trying to kick as quick as possible, and I try to sort of self hypnotise myself (If you know what I mean lol) that the more tired I get, the harder I have to try.

The main thing that gets me is if I try a round kick too fast and it comes up the front and across instead of lifting the knee up and bringing it all the way around from the side, I sometimes will kick their elbows with my ankle or instep... Hurts like **** lol.

I've been doing it for a month. And I guess I worded that poorly. I get what you're saying, regarding the smoother movements and being calm. I was just stating that for me, the bad outweighs the good. (I've been hurting myself more than anything.)

And kicking elbows is the worst.

Back yard boxing!

I remember going to a party in my high school years and the host had a boxing ring set up in his back yard. A guy covered in tats took the center and yelled out that he would take on anybody there. He looked fairly ripped, but knowing what I know now I reckon I could have taken him down and choked him out...

He never said boxing only!! :D

do tell

When I was in school is was 18, one of the older ones. We used to go out & get sloshed with teachers on Wednesday nights @ Karaoke at the Tavern.

Blues with teacher's on your side. = Good times.

Most fights have simply been drunken fights/brawls over spilt drinks, blokes bumping on the dancefloor, me perving on there missus, pinching them on the **** etc etc.

Plus I'm a smartass.

Yeah nowadys I loathe karaoke. It was just an eye opener to me when i 1st turned 18.

Thinking you are all high & mighty & bulletproof.

Though Ive never gone out with the intention of starting a fight. That's not my thing.

I'm a tad older now & the good times are slowly passing me by. I went to the Mean Fiddler last Friday night & I seriously felt old.. Seeing all these young punks there. BUT the amount of tail that was there was top notch. Just wish my GF wasnt with me.

& lil known fact Fiddler is the No.1 pub in NSW for fights. Due to its size. I only saw 3 fights the whole night. Pity there is so much security there.

when i first started mma, i was told that if i wanted to fight amateur my main style would be bjj which is what they teach mostly at my current gym. however... i have been taught kickboxing since i was 5 and even if my coach told me to pull guard in my first ammy bout i'd sprawl and brawl. It's buried too deep in my blood to stay standing at all times.

Usually got into fights at school when I got picked on.

Only got into one legit street fight. I was walking to the store to get some candy, and some punks started talking crap about me so I talked back. I thought I was going to get jumped but only one person wanted to fight me. It was a short fight. We started swing and we landed most of our shots. He tried to rush me and I kneed him in the chin. He fell and I tried to ground and pound. He started yelling for help, so I jumped off him and turned to his friends. Nobody came after me and they left. My nose was busted so I ended up going back home.

I didn't get any candy after all. :(

Don't know if i told this story before but the other night (like 4 years ago) at a club a fight broke out and I charged in to break it up and one of the guys was rocked bad, he nearly fell over and I helped him up. So I broke up the fight and everything's cool, next thing people are looking at me funny and I got no idea what for. I see a couple of mates and walk over. This is when they point out a massive blood stain down the front of my white shirt. :o Turns out the guy I helped up was bleeding everywhere from his broken nose and I didn't even see it. Oh well it was dark in the club and I was drunk. A bit ****ed though considering it was too close to lockout to go home and change shirt.

So I'm walking around trying to hide my bloodstained shirt when one of the guys who was in the fight recognizes me and starts talking ****. He approaches me and I'm thinking, ****, this guy has already been involved in a fight, if I just stand here I'll probably get sucker punched. As he gets close I kick him away with a front kick to the gut. He stumbles back, bends over, holds his gut and suddenly gasped for air. Next thing he vomits all over the floor. I just backed right up and remember hearing everybody nearby just groan in disgust. At this point his mates all start running over and my mates jump up as well. Right in the middle there's a guy bent over standing in his own vomit. I thought there would be a brawl for sure, but the bouncers all just swarmed out of nowhere and got in between us all. They see the guy in his vomit and instantly grab him, they take one look at me with my shirt and they just say "you... out!" and I am just about to say ok when they just grab me and pin my hands behind my back and escort me to the door.

After all that, me and the vomit guy were the only two guys who got kicked out, even though there was a big fight earlier and a guy was running around somewhere with a broken nose and a litre of blood on my shirt  all this because I tried to break up a fight.

never been in a sanctioned fight, i spar at my gym twice a week though.

but iv had quite alot of street fights (most of them in high school)

i remember my first serious one, i used to play rugby and our team was pretty good we had some big guys on our team, and there was a guy who was on the opposite team who was (back then) one of the fastest 15/16 year olds in england and he was a prick tbh. I had a black mate who was the winger on our team and he was sprinting up the wing, I about 1.5 meters behind him and the fast kid on the other team tackled him HARD, you could hear the crunch when they collided and then as the fast kid got up he spat on the black kid and called him the "N" word.

So as the fast kid turns around i shout "WTF do you think your doing?!" he pushes me so i end up nutting him and then he falls to the floor and im punching him and in rugby once one member gets into a fight, usually the other members will back their team mate no matter what (but that worked in reverse for the other team aswell) , In the end the fast kid ends up with a chipped tooth and a fat lip and i end up with a bloody nose and bruised ribs after one of the big ****ers on their team studded me in the ribs.

lol memories...
