Not Freddie van Halen's Thread about cricket and other GOAT commonwealth sports. Next up: Champions Trophy (cricket) and Lions Tour (Rugby)

It's amazing how much difference a fit Harris makes.  I'd say he was actually the better bowler towards the top order in the last ashes series.  But the sheer force Johnson was getting the ball through at just destroyed the the middle and tail order.

As an Englishman I'm always happy to see Harris injured when we play. He's an awesome new ball bowler. I think he'd be up there with Steyn if he hadn't been injured so much

Finally a partnership! These two could take the game away from India. It's kind of looking like the biggest obstacle now will be the murky Manchester weather, especially with Hurricane Bertha on her way.

Actually, now Butler is in I'm wondering why we waited so long. Could be England's Gilchrist.

Spent some time in Italy and while there had Sky TV. Over the 3 weeks there was a cricket game on that, little did I know at the time, was the same game going on and on. Never got one rule.

^^^That, my friends, is why Americans don't care about cricket. Hell, I fall asleep at a baseball game after three hours.

Lol, cricket lasts at most 5 days.  UFCcagerattler, that wasn't the same game....

I tried watching baseball once, that really is dull.  Everyone was deliberately missing for some reason. Weird.

Sadly, rain has stopped play in the test match at the moment. Shame, Butler and Root were looking solid.

What do Muricans think of rugby then? Must be horrified by the lack of padding?

I stopped playing this year.  Always good reason to have a laugh and a beer with the mates.  With working long hours and then spending a whole Sunday playing, i just wasn't spending any time with the family though.  Before the kids came along I was playing Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday.  Practising Thursday.  Used to love working out a batsmen when i was bowling or twatting someone for 6.  Good times

Spoken like a true northerner!

I must have been down south too long, I've become a big fan. Find league a bit dull these days.

Union is pretty non existent here. Back on topic, I expected us to perform a lot better today considering how well we did with bowling.

I've been playing Don Bradman Cricket 14 on PS3 lately. That's about the extent of my experience with Cricket. It's surprisingly fun.

They usually are pretty fun games....for about an hour, then I find I quickly lose interest.

I've never played a Cricket game before, so I figured I'd give it a shot.

The Ashes games are usually pretty fun. Although I can't really remember the last time they released one of those.

Brian lara cricket was the best. It was so hard to hit the ball if you scored one run you were likely to win.

They released an Ashes Cricket game last year, and it was so bad/broken that they pulled it from Steam, issued refunds to anyone that had purchased it, and cancelled any further development of the game.

I'd love a good cricket game to come out. I've never played one either. Any reccomendations?

Don Bradman Cricket seems to be pretty good. People that are into Cricket seem to think so at least.

Did the real India turn up today or was it the real England?  Bit of both?

This test has been the most typically "English" conditions - damp and overcast. We're still pretty decent when it's like that. India can't cope with a swinging ball.

Did you see the ko of broad? It was sickening. He's a tough lad.

I lol'd.  I don't mind him being a prick to the opposition(too much)  but the way he treats his fielders when he bowls makes me smile when I watch it

I think the comic effect was enhanced by the fact he had the ball sloshing around in his grill for so long.  Kind of like someone's MMA glove ending up attached to the nose of someone they've just KOed.

Broad's one of those players you know you'd hate him if he was the opposition but we kind of like him.

Nerdy question, but how do you embed the video in the message like that, as opposed to just adding a link?

Also, what sport are we betting on? Will it involve insects?

No OP is talking about sports not insects. This is cricket:

It was invented in India, where it's freezing most of the year.

You know it's a stupid sport when India and Pakistan are some of the best in the world at it.

That's a lie. Kabbadi is a p4p sport

I have no idea what Kabbadi is... but I do know that if ANY European country or ANY relevant North American country (excluding Canada, key word: relevant) played that sport, Pakistan and India wouldn't be **** comparatively.

USA does play it. It's a cross between chain tig and wrestling.

scroll to 6 minutes in for some classic kabbadi action. Basic idea is to grab your opponent and stop them getting back across the line by living on them. GSP would be an awesome kabbadi player

Where do you people come up with these sports??

We have a sport that kinda involves wrestling your opponent to the ground, but we cut it short before it turns into a wrestle****. We call it football. Then stupid foreigners stole the name for some **** sport called soccer.
