Yeah, i think so.  India looked broken men after losing 9 wickets in a session.  Weather permitting i expect more of the same at the oval, the Indians just want to go home and play 20-20.

Kind of annoying actually, i was "working" from home today in anticipation of having a bit of background test cricket....all over far too soon.

I'm with you there. Hoping as much as possible for a Cook century just to take that remaining doubt away. I have honestly missed most of it.

So the final test of England v India starts today. Exciting times. With overcast skies and drizzle forecast, it looks like a good toss to lose; not sure if it will be best to bat or bowl first.

Cook looks back in touch so this could be a chance for him to underline his resurgence with his first century in 18 months.

how do you think it will play out? For those who don't have access to sky sports don't worry, I'll keep you updated on the latest score

India are a disgrace to the game.  They'll arrange some 3 test series against Bangladesh at home to make themselves feel better after this piss poor showing

Yeah, it's hard to get excited seeing us pulverise a team that blatantly just want to go home and play T20. Give me a good competitive match any day.

Their fans will still say they are the best in the world though...

Exciting day today. Playing in my once a year game of cricket as a wicket-keeper who can't bat.

Hoping to get my batting average up; it's currently 4.

I've given it up for this year.  Back into it next year.  Looking forward to pulling every muscle in my back and spending the next 6 days recovering before doing it again....

Lol. I once played a a match where I bowled 3 overs, 6 wickets, 0 runs. Top scored with 77 runs off the bat. Team still lost, lol :D

ha, you must have been playing with a right bunch of muppets!

Sadly we lost by 27 runs. It was a beautiful sunny day though, in a very green and pleasant part of the country so i have no complaints.

That was sickening the way he went down.  That's probably done his cricket career in even if he does recover physically.  The mental scars and pressure from family is gonna be  overwhelming you'd expect

Hes in an induced coma after emergency surgery and it will be at least 24-48 hours before we know if the surgery is successful.

For what it's worth some expert on fox sports said that the impact was the equivalent of getting hit by a bullet

Tragic news, hope he pulls through and I feel really bad for Abbott the bowler, he's getting offered counselling which is good, not his fault, freak accidents can happen

experts and fox sports don't exactly go hald in hand... but the impact would've been solid. Not the equivalent of a baseball pitch, but still fast enough. Be interesting if the jarring of the helmet contributed to the injury sustained at all... haven't seen any news on this today - spotted any updates?

Cricket balls are harder due to their construction and have more mass, so even though they travel slightly slower they deliver much more force. I don't know about the bullet talk, sounds like hyperbole to me, but it sounds like the placement of the ball was the big factor. Heres an interesting breakdown.

Good link.. I'm not sure a leather cricket ball is harder than a baseball... I've been hit in the back by both, but yeah you're right about the size definitely bigger and the force makes more sense. Jesus if he got hit in the cerrubellum directly he might be in real trouble.... That's some illegal blow **** right there.

Poor bastard. Feeling for my mates in the redbacks.. surprised its the first time this has happened given how long the game has been played! I hear the dude is an alrounder as well and not considered fast! jaysus!

a Mitchell Johnson bouncer would've had about 15 to 20 kph on it.  If anything he probably would've probably made contact with the Johnson bouncer as he seemed to be through the shot a fraction early

You know it's a stupid sport when somebody dies mid-way through it.

What happened to him? Did he suck?

I feel like I've yet to disrespect him.

I asked if he was worth a damn. He's disrupting our local news. I'd kinda like to know who hell he is.

People get hit in the head with baseballs over here all the time. I don't owe them anything for it.

If somebody asked me if the guy sucked, I'd answer straight up. Doesn't matter what happened to him.

If you go back about a dozen posts you will get the gist of what happened, but he played for our National team and yes he was very talented, as well as just being an all around decent human being.

You may not understand and may think cricket sucks, you might just want to make a joke. Im just asking if you could please be respectful in here, as a friend. This has genuinely saddened a lot of people around the world.

See. They keep just randomly mentioning it, long after it happened. They haven't even described if he was important or not.

I asked because we see stories about minor league baseball players that no one on Earth could identify, just because they got hit by a stray baseball. They haven't said a damn thing about where he got hit other than to say "in the neck". In every sport we watch, there is no chance to die from the ball hitting you in the neck.

That's why I was confused. Apologies, sir. And to anyone I offended with the petty joke.

The ball damaged an artery in the back of his skull and the bleeding stopped oxygen getting to his brain
