is China a first world country, or a second world country?

None. The third world country seems more appropriate like your threads .

First, Second, and Third world has nothing to do with the economic status of your country or its technological advancement it refers to the political leanings of nations post WW2.
First World was the democratic nations and their allies US, UK, Japan, Australia, West Germany... etc, Second World was the warsaw pact nations headed by the USSR third world was everyone not directly allied with either the First or Second World they just so happened to be mostly poor in the 1940s.
Since the fall of the Soviet Union no one really mentions Second World because it no longer exists. China is the only major communist state left and they did not get along well with the Soviets. China is either the pre-eminent nation in the Third World or the new standard bearer for a new Second World emerging to oppose the west.
