Title Shot Seasons

Recommended Posts

How about a season where any current fighter from any particular weight class can fight for a title shot?

Kind of like the comeback season but with current fighters. Open to all, the highest ranking applicants enter for the chance to jump into contension?

Petty much just makes it a tournament like bellator. If the timed it right could incorporate into real fight cards.

Ideas? Thoughts?

I like the idea. The only thing I don't really get is:

"If the timed it right could incorporate into real fight cards"

Are you saying do the fights on fight cards, rather than as a separate TUF show? Because then it's not really a season of TUF.

Say they filmed and fought on scheduled fight cards.

A bit like that Cruz Faber season where they pre filmed the house stuff through the week and the fights were live.

Same premis but just have them fight on scheduled cards. Seems like there's a card almost every week now so it could work... in theory.

But then what is the point of TUF if the fights are on fight cards instead of on TUF?

(I'd don't disagree if your argument is what's the point of TUF in general, but I feel as though that's a separate issue)

Not sure really. Give some fighters some screen time. Develop relationships with viewers. Earn abit if TV money.

Tuf needs something to spice it up. I literally just fast forward to the fights on the last few seasons.

The way I would do it is, instead of having the fights at events, I would still have the fights at the TUF gym, but I'd spread them out with a month, or two in between, and in between fights, they go home, and train with their normal team, and you basically turn the remainder of the show that's not the fights into mini episodes of Primetime/Embedded where they follow the fighters around.

I'm down for that... but how would they handle the rest of the division?

Well I'd assume guys on the brink of a title shot wouldn't want to enter, so it would mainly be guy ranked 5 to 20 and maybe someone who's lost a few title fights and needs to get back in the mix, mendes or cerrone spring to mind.

Id also have it like the first few seasons where if a fighter lost, they'd go home.

Could be an idea. It'd get me back into tuf again.

I'd watch it but would the said weight class be put on hold as far as title shots go? I mean the UFC hasn't been to kind to contenders lately.. Meisha.. Frankie

Could work both ways. A guy like Frankie could sit and wait while guys fight for a shot. Or go in the house and get the shot undeniably.

Would also be good to get some beefs going to sell some tickets. Seems to be all the rage nowadays.

I see no reason why a guy like Frankie couldn't fight for the title in the meantime. From the beginning of filming for a season to the point that the winner would be ready to fight for the title, there would be more than enough time for the current contender to fight the champ before the TUF winner.

Tell that ti Frankie. He should've got his shot when he jacked Cub Swanson over a year ago and I doubt he'll be getting one before 200.

Poor Frankie.
