Just choked down an enormous salad of lettuce, raw spinach and raw kale.  Was pretty good!  Kale is a pain in the butt to chew apparently.

I just hope my guts continue to be okay with this.

I usually bake or blend for that reason. If you do bake some you won't get as much out of it nutrition wise i wouldn't think but it'll flavor anything you add it to and they're still pretty nutrient dense anyway.

For baking i just rinse them, pull the leaves, massage in a very light coat of extra virgin olive oil , lay them flat on parchment paper on a metal baking sheet, season with a light sprinkle of chipotle roasted garlic and bake @ 320-325 for like 10-15 min.

You want a little crisp on the outside edges but watch it towards the end so you don't burn them. Little browned on the edges but not blackened. Don't pull them early either or they'll be dark green and soggy with the oil.

Welp the Kale didn't kill me.

I wonder how long my guts have been able to handle this stuff.  I love salads but spent years not being able to eat them.

Killed a core workout earlier on the stability ball. Didn't track my overall time but i wasn't working for speed. I did them moderate to slow pace with an emphasis on form, a full range of motion, a smooth controlled flow in the mid range synchronized with my breath and making sure i got a good quality of contraction on the end of movements and smoothly transition back to my starting positions.

500 reps total with 12 different exercises. Rest periods of 30 sec for the first block of 1-4, then 45 sec for 5-8 and finally a full minute for the last block of 9-12.

Block 1=210 reps

1. Crunches x 2 sets of 25=50 reps

2. Bridging Crunches x 2 sets of 25=50 reps

3. Bridging Sit-ups x 2 sets of 15=30 reps

4. Bridging Pelvic Lifts x 2 sets of 40=80 reps

Block 2=160 reps

5. Planking V-Crunches x 2 sets of 10=20 reps

6. Planking Reverse Leg Lifts x 2 sets of 10=20 reps

7. Planking Hindu Push-ups x 2 sets of 20=40 reps

8. Kickbacks x 2 sets of 20 each leg=80 reps

Block 3=130 reps

9. Roll outs x 2 sets of 15=30 reps

10. Straight Leg Raises x 2 sets of 20=40 reps

11. Side Leg Raises x 2 sets of 15=30 reps

12. Side Knee Crunches x 2 sets of 15=30 reps

I put on one heck of a good workout today. I'm rather proud of it. I've been working out every single day, because I am living in the camper, so I need to go to the gym to take a shower. It works out rather well for me.

I like to shower at least a couple times a day, but my gym closes at 9pm. And since I don't roll out of back of my pick up truck till afternoon, being a bartender and everything, 9 o'clock just doesn't do it for me. So I go to the bike shop. I have 24 hour access and they have showers there. It's some sort of urban center to park your bike and take a shower before work, it's pretty neat and awfully progressive for the Midwest. Anyway, I feel I have to earn my shower. So I go for a long bike ride.

Tonight I want to take a completely unnecessary walk for a pretty significant distance. I just want to kill time without screwing around on my computer or my phone or in a bar. Because of the demographics of my city, I would like to bring a gun with me. I got into a little bit of trouble last night, but because I am a freaking bad ****, I was able to safely negotiate my way through a bad situation. But I don't have a holster. And my criminal record prevents me from carrying, anyway. So I'll be selling this truck and moving out of the city soon. I'm just really sick of it. Sick of this city.

After my walk, I will ride my bike. "They" really are so bold as to call out to you, expecting you to stop your bike so that they could have a chance to hustle you in some way, but on a bike you pass right by them.

As this thread is fitness and training goals, it's important to keep in mind why we want to be fit. It's nice to look good, it's good to look nice, but we want to be healthy and athletic and muscular so that anyone who is stupid enough to attempt to make us a victim, will become victims themselves.

Some good inspiration going on here. My hardest time to exercise is when I'm on holiday...am away for 3 weeks but plan to do an intense HIIT workout 3 times a week for half an hour plus run or hike 3 times a week.

That's the plan anyway. I'll let you know how I get on. Where you at Nyte/sober, still going strong?

Put in more work after work today. Log me down for a 4 mile jog at the track. 10(ish) on my bike and i did a some bench calisthenics downtown on the way back followed by some stretching & joint mobility stuff and a little hanging from some bars on a swing at the park nearby to keep my shoulders nice and loose.

Working out on holiday is proving to be a challenge, although we've walked about 40 miles this week. Went to a little island today; saw a sign saying mountain path 3 hours to top and back. We had 2 hours until the last ferry departed. Sent the missus shopping and smashed it up there and back in just over an hour. Felt awesome...jeans and a lumberjack shirt are not good workout clothes though!!

Being in Japan has brought home just how rubbish my flexibility is, these dudes sit cross-legged eating dinner for hours, I can't even last 2 minutes. Poor.

@stomp, you seem to be upping the running mileage a bit, good stuff. Are the joints handling running a bit better these days?

@stomp, you seem to be upping the running mileage a bit, good stuff. Are the joints handling running a bit better these days?

More than i have recently yeah but i'm only jogging like 2-3 times a week where before i did it 5 days straight during the week and cut grass and whatnot on the weekends. I found that to wear on my joints over time. Now my joints feel much better not that i don't still have my hiccups now and again sometimes but much less so. Still doing yoga/stability ball, dance and lifting dumbells. I'm pretty damn vascular and tone right now. I got veins all over now i didn't know i had. lol and summer isn't even here yet i'm finna be shredded once that heat picks up and finishes burning off all my fat.

Anyway log me in for another 5-6 at the track. TBF a lot of that is walking. It's probably more like 2-3 actual jogging and it's like a 5 mile walk to the track and back. I've been walking there recently because my bike is toast and i'd rather take a walk or bike ride there instead of driving.

About to transition off the low carb diet to more of a balanced one.  Lost 8 pounds in a little under a month and I seem to have done a good job maintaining muscle while dropping the weight.

Right.  Time to ramp it up.

100 miler in 4 months.  Doing a Half Marathon in 5 weeks, a 54 miler in 10 weeks as a warm up and then it's game on.

Going to start running 5-6 times a week now, hopefully clocking up a mighty 250 miles in May.  Going to be eating seriously clean; no sugars, no coffee, no processed crap, vegan meals 2-3 times a week.

Had a run tonight; only 24 hours after getting off a 12 hour flight, so felt like crap, but it was warm, sunny and spring in the UK is a seriously beautiful time of year. Saw a couple of squirrels and a deer in full flight.  Feel ready to go.  Let's do this thing.

Off the low carbs but am keeping my carbs to about 30% of what I was eating before.

So far no weight fluctuation.  Holding steady in the 159 range.

Did my 5 mile walk to the track & i did a mile jog at the track then 5 mile walk back. I stopped at a Karate studio downtown on the way back. I'm friends with the owner and talked to him last week about stopping by. I got a 15 min easy paced boxing workout in before his classes started.

It's been a while since i did any martial arts training. I'm a lefty and my right hand is hot garbage now. Felt awkward. Left is still pretty sharp. Cardio held up surprisingly well.

After i got home i still felt good enough to finish off with a set each of push-ups, dips, pull-ups, leg raises, knee lifts, crunches, waist twisting and then some flys, dumbbell curls and skull crushers followed by some joint mobility and stretching to cool down.

What a difference a week makes...after struggling my way through 20 miles last weekend, ran every day, culminating with another 20 miler on Saturday.  Felt way better.

Started the week with a bowl of porridge, 3 hill sprints (with Mrs Sparks in tow!!) and then a massive omlette.  Happy days.

Here are some pics from the leafy trails of England this weekend....

Ah, the old build then strip routine.

When I first started training many years ago I was very confused by all these blokes wandering around talking about "stripping". Thought I'd ended up in the wrong place.

I'm still lean but that's just because I physically can't put that much weight on lol, just not as much as I usually am. Gyms are pretty homoerotic though to be fair aren't they lol.

April was a decent month for me.  Ran 156 miles in total; a bit up on last year.  Aiming to break the 200 mile barrier in May - have already run 7 times in 7 days.  Mrs Sparks has caught the running bug so one or two are with her, which is nice.

Actually, yesterday was quite a pivotal day.  50 days until my first ultra (54 miles) and 3 months to my big ultra (100+ miles).  Definitely sharpens the mind a bit.  May is absolutely my favourite time of year to run though so I'm looking for great things this month.  Trails are hard and dry, scenery is at its most stunning and its warm, but not too warm.  Really looking forward to this Saturday; I'm marking out the first 15 miles of a 50 mile ultra.  So I'll get up at 4 in the morning, drive to the start, then run the first 15 miles marking out the course before running back to my house.  I'll be going in the opposite direction to the racers, which will be pretty inspirational.  Should hit just under 30 miles in total.

Only downside of all this running is that I'm aiming to train 8 times a week - 6 runs and 2 x in the gym.  It's tough to keep on top of that schedule, and if something slips out it's always the gym.  Consequently my upper body is getting devoured by my legs so the above vids are just the inspiration i needed to make sure i don't slack off there any more.

Keep up the good work fellas.

Tomorrow I'm gonna start hitting cardiovascular harder to get this bulk off that I put on over the past four months. I got upto 275lbs but my strength and size gains are huge. Funny thing is that I still take a large shirt in the midsection but my chest and arms are literally exploding through.

Hope I can keep some of the mass I put on. Time will tell m8s

What sort of cardio do you do? Where a lot of people go slightly wrong when they're 'stripping' is that they attack their cardio workout with the same intensity as weights. Consequently you really destroy you're practically doing a leg workout 3 or 4 times a week and your body goes catabolic and starts eating your other muscles to rebuild.

You might find you maintain muscle mass whilst losing excess weight if you make your cardio workouts longer and less intense. Hard to beat a nice 10 mile run!

That Plitt guy is a beast. Makes me want to start hitting the weights again but i slightly tore my lat muscle and I've been having stinger issues with the nerves on the inside of both of my arms. I can't move them quickly or at certain angles or i'll get a severe stinger.

Sucks so i've only been running lately & doing some stretching. I'm down to 169 lbs :(. I'll have to wait till i fully heal up until i can really get back into strength training.

Very inspirational weekend for several reasons.  Did my longest run in 9 months - 27 miles in total.  It was a bit weird though because for the first 15 miles I was marking out part of a race (a 50 miler along the same route as my 100 miler).  So every couple of minutes I was stopping to tie markers on trees or put up arrows.  This was way more tiring and slowed me down a lot, so i barely averaged 15 minute miles.

The cool thing was that on the way back all the people in the race were coming the other way.  Pretty much everyone said hello, had some good banter plus a mate of mine was in the race so we had a quick chat.  The guy in the lead had done 15 very hilly miles in 1.5 hours, which is insane - although he actually dropped out at the halfway mark.

Second part of inspiration was a lass I know who's training for a HM (her first ever) did 10 miles for the first time. She's had loads of injury problems so this was a huge milestone.  I'm actually running it with her in 4 weeks, will be cool to be racing for someone else rather than me.

Final part was getting a message from another mate who I'm running an ultra with in June.  He's also struggled a bit with injury, but i got a message from him saying he was doing a 20 miler.  Had just read his message when i came round a corner in the trail and there he was trundling in the opposite direction to me.  Considering i was in the middle of nowhere, it was quite a cool coincidence.  Funny how little things can lift you when you're trucking along.....

Anyway. Here's a couple of pictures.  Almost feeling ready for my first ultra now.  Almost...

Down 7kgs and only about 3kg/~6 weeks from my goal but I've been snacking too much the last week. Don't think I'll be doing a long-ish cut again

I've started swimming and decided to go with the C25K program, I am probably fitter than that but I started from 0. Swimming only 500m now. I had not swum in ages and my breathing is not at all to be so I am trying to improve my technique before IU increase distance. I dropped the barefoot for now, I am running in normal shoes, first I'll get fit and then I'll alternate exercising to strengthen my Achilles heel and trying to mix barefoot and normal later this year.

I've lost about 5 Kg, when I was back home I had lost about 7kg, but regained some weight after I did nothing for a couple of weeks :P Overall I am getting into kind of a routine, it would be swimming 3 days and running 3 days, also the days I do not run I walk either to or from work. Feeling good and trying to get some motivation to write my effing dissertation :D

Summer has arrived with a vengeance in the UK, which means my running gets longer and slower.  Missus Sparks is running a HM in a couple of weeks and has just done a 13 mile training run.  I was planning on doing a 5 mile "recovery" run today, but she's somehow convinced me i should do the run she's just done.

This is just the kind of motivation i need to be honest, I'm flagging a bit after having done 150 miles already in May.  Still 10 weeks to the big race though, and so far am injury free.

Next week I'll do my first over-night run; going to do 20 miles starting at 10PM next Friday.  Will be a bit weird!

How are we doing folks?  Amunera, good work with the swimming, and do whatever works for you running wise.  If you can get your foot landing a bit better and keep your posture upright, that'll do most of the good that running pure "barefoot" will do.

Yup, focusing more in the cadence, landing under the hip, the upright position and the slight forward incline. So far it's been 2 consistent weeks, got a bit of pain in my shins and knees so I am doing so focused exercises to strengthen those muscles and also to gain some flexibility. Weight wise I am stable but I had to open a new hole for my belt so that's good :P

Solid 80kg at the minute and leaner than I have been in a while.

Hitting some solid pause squats at 140kg (310lbs) while not amazing definitely this is definitely stronger than I have been in a while :). Feeling good.

I've been eating more and it seems to be kicking my metabolism up.  Carrying a heavy backpack around campus and going up like 10 flights of stairs a day is helping too.  I weigh what I did when I came off the low carb diet and have definitely put on some muscle mass.

I finally am starting to feel stronger from week to week.
