Good to see he didn't get off with this.

There was literally no chance of that happening. His stupid a$$ should have taken a plea deal.

He's never going to get out of prison now and considering his mental issues, he will end up offing himself in prison.

Roids are a hell of a drug.

Do those actresses seek out dangerous men?  Do dangerous men pursue those sorts of women?

I remember reading 2-3 years ago that Jon tried to kill himself (unsuccessfully), then a few months later became a Christian after reading several books.

I've been keeping up with his twitlonger posts for the last 2 years, wondering if what he was doing was for "real"...then when I heard the news of his 29 convictions, I went back to his account to see what he would say, and I honestly wasn't expecting to see this:

http://www.twitlonge.../show/n_1spo6tr

While he deserves his punishment, and his victims deserve restitution, I truly hope he's changed his life for the better.

It's no secret that I'm not a fan of religion, but I'm not so blind that I can't see when it legitimately helps people.

I have two half-brothers from my father's previous marriage. My father and his first wife were going through a rough patch and decided to go to counseling. The therapist told them they should have a second child because he thought that would help them come together as a family. It obviously didn't help as they got divorced a year after Joel was born.

His mother was a real "See you next Tuesday" and when she was upset with Joel, she would tell him that he should have never been born or that they only had him because of what the therapist said. Needless to say that it effed his head up bad and he became a real problem child.

This lead to a lifetime of addiction and dereliction of responsibilities as a friend, husband and father. When he reached rock bottom, he went into recovery and joined a 12 step program and it really worked for him. I hate 12 step for a lot of reasons, one of them being that it has a 95% rate of failure in that, people following the program relapse back into drugs and/or alcohol. Joel is one of the 5% and he directly credits Christianity for that.

I sincerely hope that Warmachine is the same and that he can truly transform himself into a model citizen and earn his release when he comes up for parole.

well said...hard to read stories like this and see all the terrible things people are capable of and how hard life can be, but it's great to hear Joel is doing well.

AA meetings 100% saved my life.  I have no doubt that I would be dead or in jail if not because of it.  Yeah the 12 steps were derived from a Christian organization (The Oxford Group) but Christianity plays no part in the recovery process unless you want it to.

The whole point of AA is:

1) Admitting powerlessness
2) Recognizing that a human power can't relieve your alcoholism
3) That a god of your understanding could if sought

4) Freeing yourself of resentments and cleaning up "your side of the street" (amends)

5) Carrying your personal message of what worked for you to others.

There's a whole chapter in the Big Book of AA addressed to the agnostic.  Basically the idea is that you chose your own conception of god.  For me that conception was a Spirit of the Universe underlying the totality of things.

At that point you take a personal inventory where you basically take a look at every person, place or thing you're resentful towards and why.  Then you look back over the list and identify what fear lead to the resentment (alcoholics are driven by a hundred fears).  THEN you figure out your own part in the resentment.

After that you get together with a sponsor or basically some other person that's not going to be affected by what you tell them.  You go over the whole shebang and in my experience at the end they ask what you left out.  I've told a sponsor things that no other person on the planet knows about me.  Then you go sit quietly for an hour, by yourself and think about what you just did.  Next you ask yourself if the inventory you made was half-*ssed, if not, you say the 7th step prayer

My Creator,

I am now willing that You should have all of me,
good and bad.
I pray that You now remove from me
every single defect of character which stands in the way
of my usefulness to You and my fellows.
Grant me strength, as I go out from here,
to do Your bidding.

Amen

Now I still say this prayer along with the 3rd step prayer from time to time.  Not because I'm actually "praying to god" but because it's like a mantra that relaxes my mind and body.  I believe that the fundamental concept of god centers in a person's mind.  Saying stuff like that basically get's my mind headed in the right direction.

After that you go back to your resentment list and identify everyone you've wronged.  Then you have to prepare to make amends where possible, unless the amends would injure you or the other person (like you don't go to some guy whose wife you ****ed 5 years ago and tell him about the affair).

Then it's just about continuously taking an inventory and helping other alcoholics.  I've sponsored probably 15 guys and I'd say 5 of them have put together meaningful years of sobriety.  But at the end of the day helping them kept me sober.

But you're right, the relapse rate is high.  This is the onus of the individual.  The only person responsible for an addict's using or drinking is the addict.  The program as it's laid out will give you a spiritual awakening if you're open to it or don't have something organically wrong with you like bad schizophrenia or something that prevents you from seeing reality and being honest with yourself.  People relapse and die, or worse kill other people.  I had a friend in Chapel Hill who relapsed and beat his exgirlfriend to death with a golf club.  He died in jail a few years back.  One guy that was really active in the Young People's groups killed a sheriff's deputy with a shogun during a relapse.

But many many people who go out come back and are welcomed with open arms when they return.  Sometimes going back to drugs and alcohol is what it takes for people to realize how out of control they are.  When you have a head full of AA and a belly full of booze it really ****s up your drinking/using.  Hell I relapsed after 11 years but I feel like the obsession of drugs and alcohol has been lifted from me as a result of working the program for as long as I did.

But man, if you really want to piss a room full of alcoholics off come in there and start blathering about Jesus.

To play devil's advocate: His only hope of ever seeing the light of day is based around his ability to portray himself as someone that can be a productive citizen in society, and shows remorse for his actions. The prison considers your every day behavior, and every bit of evidence you've given them along the route. Including Twitlonger posts.

If he were to ever say one time online where the evidence can be collected, "I'm glad I bodied that cheating **** and her soft little boyfriend", he would literally guarantee himself of never getting out of prison.

very well could be the case...of course this could easily be achieved without claiming Christianity and all....Jon may be the only person who knows the truth of the matter.
