Conor McGregor comes to agreement with Dana to fight Mayweather

UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor says he has signed a deal to fight Floyd Mayweather.

McGregor (21-3) concluded negotiations with UFC president Dana White over a proposed boxing match with Mayweather on Tuesday, with the Irishman describing the contract as "historic".

"The first, and most important part of this historic contract has now officially been signed off on," McGregor said in a statement to Themaclife.com.

"Congratulations to all parties involved. We now await [Mayweather's adviser] Al Haymon and his boxer's signature in the coming days."

White revealed he would now begin the process of negotiating a deal with Mayweather and the American's promoter Al Haymon, but stressed there was no guarantee that the fight would take place.

"The McGregor side is done," White told ESPN. "I'm starting to work on the Mayweather side now.

"I'm not saying the fight will happen, but I've got one side done, now it's time to work on the other. If we can come to a deal with Haymon and Mayweather, the fight's gonna happen."

So in summary, they are basically about 10% along in progress. Good update lol

I could write up a contract to fight Mayweather and sign it right now

Exactly, if they haven't even started negotiations with Mayweather then they have a long ways to go. Look all of the sticking points between Mayweather and Pacman. Time, place, drug testing, weight, how to split the money (this includes showtime, Mayweather, UFC, and McGregor), size of gloves, etc all needs to be figured out.

True, we will see how real Mayweather was when he said he was just waiting on McGregor to sign, that he didn't think McGregor would, now that he did, let's see how this goes down.

BJ Penn did. His family is very wealthy, he never needed to fight and never did it for the money.

Not saying Conor is the same way, he's not because he clearly loves making money. But I feel he loves to compete as well and fighting is seemingly his main passion in life.

He won't need to worry about money after this fight, he can focus more on being the best fighter to ever live.

Here's what you are missing:

This is the easiest fight at this stage of Floyds career

This is the biggest money fight Floyd can take

He is 1 win away from breaking the record (50/0)

My point is Floyd would be a fool to throw this opportunity away. He'll sign. 99% sure of it

He should have too, figure if this fight will be this year. He won't defend the title till Summer 2018.

If they fight in Sept/Oct Conor can be back in the octagon by January/February

I think you are confused in the steps needed to get a deal done and where this is currently at.

They wont fight in Sept because of Canelo/GGG.  October maybe.  I am thinking Nov/Dec.  He will then take time off to be with his son... Back into a camp in Feb/Mar  fight in May/June.    Who the hell knows though. LOL

For the love of God I cannot figure out why people are so damn excited to see Mayweather school McGregor in boxing.

World class boxing champions haven't been able to KO Mayweather so I'm not even giving McGregor a punchers chance. Why pay probably $100 for a PPV where the outcome is 99.99999999999999999999999% assured?

Man can you imagine if by some miracle Conor won?! It'd be chaos and madness. Boxing fans would lose their jimmies for good.

If Mayweather wasnt such a defensive specialist then maybe Conner could get a shot in, (very, very slim maybe) but seriously go back and watch Mayweather and Mosley, Mosley is way faster than Conner and Mayweather beat his **** from the 2nd Rd on.

I think a lot of it comes down to the fact that picture prime Mosley faced Mayweather now an aging master against a young hungry lion.

I know in terms of boxing skill Conor isn't up there with Mosley but that seems like the premise its being sold on to me.

Also, are all of you guys forgetting how ****ing gassed McGregor got boxing with Nate in the first fight? You throw more punches per round in boxing and it's 12rds instead of 3 or 5.

If McGregor doesn't die from getting his head patted to death, he will die of exhaustion by the 7th rd. You cannot build up boxing stamina in a handful of months.

He was defending takedowns too. It'll be completely different cardio wise.

I agree with jolldan. Floyd is 40 yrs old now, age has to catch up with him eventually.

Totally different training, technique and gloves.

I can't see Conor putting as much power in to his punches with those big boxing gloves on so I see his cardio holding up, at least for a few more rounds.

It's not gonna catch up on him against an amateur boxer.

Let me ask you a serious question. Are you going to buy this fight if it happens and if you do, do you expect anything other than a Floyd decision or KO?

Heavier gloves will make him tire faster too though.

I'll be the first to admit that i say some crazy of the wall **** sometimes because it's funny to me or the reactions you guys give are funny to me, I'm here for entertainment. Nothing more. Do I fan boy Werdum, and Cerrone....absoluetly, but everybody fan boys someone here.

However, in this instance you really just have to look at what's right in front of you. A professional undefeated boxing champion with 40 fights on his resume against Conner McGregor in a boxing rules only match.

One side done? Last thing I heard, this was something Conor himself & his own company that were going after, its not MMA its boxing so technically Conor could do this alone without the UFC but he was going to give them a slice of the pie.

I seem to remember Dana looking particularly upset during a conference when a reporter asked Dana how he felt about Conor potentially leaving the UFC out of the fight.

I thought it was all about Floyd agreeing to the fight with negotiations about the money.

Now the UFC is putting this together or Dana is still out of the loop & trying to save face? I cant see Conor just letting the UFC take control of this thing.

UFC has control and is going to take about 70% of Conor's net earnings.

They wanted to use the Ali act as a loop hole to let him box even through he is under contract. There isn't any legal precedence of that working on MMA contracts so to try that would take a long drawn out court battle with the UFC. Conor doesn't have that kind of time and would most likely lose.

It's the what if factor that has me excited

I can "what if" Kate upton and Christina Ricci wanting me in a threesome and that gets me excited.

There is no "what if" here to me. If Marquez, Pac, and Mosley couldn't knock him out then no way in hell Conner does and he sure as **** isn't gonna out point him.

Exactly my same thought.

This whole time I thought the deal was done and fight date and venue would be announced anytime now.

Nope ... the 'Conor part' is done lmao ... yeah the 'Conor side' was the easiest part to deal with because, no matter how you look at it, Conor is under a contract with the UFC so of course that side would be done.

Now, dealing with Floyd will be a whole different game.

Dana is so full of ****

i know. but nonetheless hes gonna make a fortune from it, more than he'd ever see by fighting in the ufc.  he could just as easilly retire after the bout and be set for life.

once he gets a taste of the mayweather money, he's not gonna want to come back to the ufc.  unless uncle dana is willing to pay him a **** tonne of money

if this bout goes through then i dont see connor ever fighting again in any combat sport

I'm starting to work on the Mayweather side now.

I'm not saying the fight will happen, but I've got one side done, now it's time to work on the other. If we can come to a deal with Haymon and Mayweather, the fight's gonna happen.

Get in line, dawg. I'm already working on making a deal with Haymon and Mayweather.
