Just tried to open an account linked to my Coinbase wallet.  Got to the ID verification and it wanted to use my camera to snap a pic of my license.  So I let it and it won't take a pic.  So I decide to try it on my phone, I log in and it just keeps going back to the login screen.

i tried at one point when i first bought but the verification wasn't going through for some reason...never bothered w it again

The fundamental difference is that virtually all other asset classes operate within a fiat money system. Crypto-currencies operate outside that framework. They are creating a new paradigm, which is why you have to be wary of applying the usual economics.

I've stated many times in this thread that I wouldn't touch bitcoin with a barge-pole personally speaking,so you can park the white knight comments. I just enjoy discussing macro-economics with well-informed people.

I guess you'll do until svt/sober/can pass shows up though.

Bitcoin and all other crypotcurrencies operate within a fiat money system lol...........Your thesis is flawed and you have poor evidence to support your claims.

So long as people continue to beleive there is 'limited' supply in bitcoin and goverments/wallstreet/bakers don't decide to get involved too much I can see the Cryptocurrency bubble continue.

IMO the bubble will pop when some of these BTC hoarders start to get greedy and unload it......like I have said....I have no idea if that is at 20K, 50K, 1M?  but it will pop.

it will be interesting to see what happens if BTC cannot convert on it's promise to be a currency (which looks iffy with the high fees and slow transaction times)....but there are things coming that will correct those downsides.

Lol, they just don't. That's the whole point of them. It's not a thesis or a claim it's a basic fact that makes them appealing to people who have lost faith in 'the system'.

No one is arguing that bitcoin will rise forever. However, attempts to apply traditional theories to predict when the bubble will burst are laughable. I looked at 8 different models on Monday out of interest. The most bearish predicted a top of 10k. The most bullish predicted a top of 12.2k. They were all hopelessly wrong because they're based on models that are used for asset classes within the fiat money system.

Cryptocurrency is like a weird hybrid that has characteristics of gold and fiat currency but is very different to both. These are kind of the basics...

I have said in this thread that I also don't think there is a way to predict when the bubble will pop....all I am saying is that this 100% is a bubble BTC is in right now.

How would you go about setting up automatic trades?  Is that possible with Bitcoin or would you have to use some sketchy bot?

Any experience with it?

Be careful. This is the wild wild west.

These exchanges been known to have "Flash Crashes" and liquidate people full accounts in literally 3 secs.

Ethereum 1 time was $300 and flashed crashed to $0.10 1 guy had a order set in that low and became a multi millionaire in like 2 secs when order filled on that flash crash and everyone that had stop losses on the way down got liquidated and lost millions.

It was crazy but luckily due to the uproar they gave back people money that was lost but it happen again last week when bitcoin flash crashed down to 9100.

Usually some big whales cause it they get together and orchestrate is in order to get coins cheap quick.

Yeah dude with that 0.10 cent Ethereum made off like a bandit.

Notice how everytime it flash crash these exchanges go down for the normal person and by time you can get back into it the price has risen again?

Yup orchestrated is my guess as many others say.

1 guy posted his coinbase account with literally $250,000 in Bitcoin and Ethereum on an exchange on Twitter to strangers.

Hackers are probably fighting over hacking his account as we speak.

Op-ed: Bitcoin Is Not a Bubble; It's in an S-Curve and It's Just Getting Started

On the macro scale, however, we may be witnessing a more grand pattern forming; a price-correlated S-curve.

The S-curve is the classic adoption curve applied to the advent of new technologies. As a percentage of the population, adoption looks like a lag phase where the technology is utilized by the innovators of said technology, followed by an early adoption phase led by people who often take risks in order to be the first movers in a space. After the early adopter phase (~16% of the population is now participating), there comes a great “tipping point” where the wide use of the technology seems inevitable. The tipping point gives rise to the “Early Majority” joining in on the fun, followed by the late majority and, finally, the holdouts who allow the top of the S to asymptotically approach total adoption. The curve, as a factor of time and adoption, looks sort of like the following:

Hardware wallet (Any long-term hodl's or big balances).

Ledger Nano S or Trezor.

https://shop.trezor.io/

https://www.ledgerwa...s/ledger-nano-s

Control your keys and your coins and make sure you cannot be hacked. Look these up they will cost but you won't be sorry or as nervous. Do not buy these products by 3rd party buy from the company itself the last thing you want is something like these items in multiple hands before they come to your doorstep by other people outside the original makers.

Do a little bit of research on hardware wallets and these 2 and you will see how highly praised they are.

Blockchain for a hot wallet (small balances to make small transactions etc)

I've been thinking about getting a hardware wallet myself too. Just a bit hesitant on how easy it would be to transfer everything over, would likely have to send mine over in weekly increments in order to avoid getting flagged for anything by CB.

Also the legislation that just got passed regarding users of Coinbase from 2013-2015 that cashed over 20k and didn't report it on their taxes just had their info taken down and send to the IRS which is very troubling. If I was to send everything over to a hardware wallet this would classify as "earned income"no? And I'd have to file this all to my taxes and pay a much higher sum to the IRS this year.

You don't have to file any taxes until you convert profits into USD.

Anything held a year or longer would qualify as long term gains (which i now have).

Hardware wallets are pretty straight forward and their customer service will help you plus you can always just check out mutiple Youtube videos showing you how to set it up.

If you have a substantial amount of money in this i would recommend it plus yeah all the IRS stuff cbhave on file is another reason not to hold all your funds there.

So if I'm sending some btc to another exchange does that count as earned income I need to file? Just wondering cause I mainly cash out + deposit my sports betting through bovada using btc, done it quite a few times so starting to lose track lol. Would be a royal pain in the **** to have to file through all that and tack it up as earned income.

But I take it the only time I need to is for anything I cash out and send to my bank?

Rockhold laid the pipe to Weidman the can. Him and lovato can compare notes now

I'm not a tax expert but only gains are considered taxable.

You also can report losses so you can do that as well if you lost.

Exchange to exchange is not earned income far as i know (once again not a expert).

From the big people i was told if you buy.......make a profit and convert to USD then it becomes taxable on the gains you made.

Say you bought 1 bitcoin at $5000......now its 15k and you tax out. From what i think/believe is that 10k would then be a taxable amount.
