Eddie Alvarez eyeing “big, mega fight” in last fight on current contract

Last weekend, on the main card of UFC 218, former UFC lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez solidified himself as MMA’s true King of Violence by knocking out another frontrunner for that lofty title, Justin Gaethje.

This win over Gaethje marked the second last obligation on Alvarez’s current UFC contract. Whatever the future holds, Alvarez is hoping the UFC will give him a “big, mega-fight” for the last fight on his contract.

“I actually have one fight left with the UFC,” Alvarez said in a post-fight interview with 93.3 WMMR in Philadelphia (via MMAJunkie). “I’ve finished all my fights, and I have one fight left in my contract. It’s time to sit down with the boss man and talk about long-term, talk about how we’re going to do this thing and what big, mega-fight we can have coming up.”

In this interview, Alvarez also touched on his new reputation as MMA’s most violent man. Unsurprisingly, the lightweight great is all for this monicker.

“I’m the most violent man in the UFC,” Alvarez explained. “They can take the No. 1, 2 and 3 (ranking). I’ll just take that title, and I’ll keep it. I’ve been crowned. … We went in to make a point. My performances in the UFC, I’ve been trying to win. Win, win, win. I’ve been so focused on winning that the performance itself wasn’t showing my true colors. We went in here with just the idea of, ‘Just be as violent as we can.’ The byproduct of that would be a win.”

Alvarez also broke down his finish of Gaethje, explaining that he knew Gaethje could bounce back with only an instant to recover.

“He was (out after the knee),” Alvarez said. “I put my hands up in the air immediately. I did not want to hit him anymore after that. I felt it; he felt it. The ref, I’m not going to say he was late, but I didn’t want to hit him anymore. I felt it clean. That’s a guy – he’s like I am. You give him a split-second, and he’s back in the fight, and you have to fight him all over again.”

Who do you want to see Eddie Alvarez fight next?

They should give him the Conor rematch, just so he can get starched again.

They get another Conor fight, a Conor title defense and they wont have to give Eddie a big money deal. Eddie will either re-sign for what he was making or him and Will Brooks head back to bellator as a tag team

the credentials for being the most violent must include having a face that looks like it ran through a wood chipper after fights.  Receiving violence should not be the primary measuring stick...  He landed some decent shots in his bout with Gaethje but nothing to crown him with the moniker...  He had his brains scrambled against Conor and Poirier beat him, now he wants the money fight... other than the manhandling conor gave him - what is the money fight for him?  He loses against any fighter with an IQ - JG was strictly a banger...  IMO

he has beaten too many champs to say he doesnt have an IQ..the reason he beat JG is because he attacked the body (all fight IQ based on game-planning etc...)..

Would like to see him run it back vs Poirer, or vs Aldo if Jose wants to move up to 155.. Otherwise give him the Barboza/Khabib loser, since Ferg will likely fight the winner for the strap

The comment was more to do with Gaethje going forward as a brawler and his IQ as such...

I wouldn't mind seeing Nate fed to Alvarez for a pointless fight

Nate's a bum, but don't disrespect him like that. He'd smack Eddie around like a child.

I keep hearing about these body shots, but I have to tell ya, man.. If you watch the last 10 Gaethje fights, you'd see that he always slows down as the fight goes on. He throws every punch full force, so of course he tires out.

I've yet to see any evidence the body shots from Alvarez did anything at all.

Alvarez sucks. Arguably the worst champion the UFC has ever had

lol there has been way worse not to mention the fact that some TUF idiot is champ of 125 right now while half the roster could probably take her

at least it was gone in a blink of an eye.  The more he opens his mouth, the faster he catches up to PVZ on my annoyance scale...

Buttspring forever worst champ, sorry.

Bisping defended the belt, dummy.

Eddie Alvarez landed nine punches total in his lone title defense, and he got scraped off the canvas.
