The Last Jedi discussion (Warning:Spoilers)

Recommended Posts

Alright, here we go, give me your feedback

What I liked/loved about the move:

-Rey/Luke Connection: I think that was very well done. Scenes at the island were great/meaningful (maybe except when Luke drank that funky milk)

-Rey/Kylo connection

-Entire Throne Room scene was very well done
-Snoke: I liked how evil he was and how he toyed with Kylo, kept belittling him and constantly using "Vader this" "Vader that" to build that anger in Kylo, that was great
-I actually thought Snoke's death was executed well and definitely took me by surprise
-Yoda's appearance was awesome, didn't feel shoehorned, and I loved how he recalled the same teachings from Empire, that gave me goosebumps. "Always looking to the horizon, never where you are"..."Pass on what you have learned"

-Luke at the end of this movie was just badass
-Opening of the movie was great, liked the space battle

What I disliked
-Captain Phasma was even more useless in this movie than the last. Literally just used as a plot device, doesn't add any substance to the story
-What I hated THE MOST was the Finn/Tico story-line. Very pointless and everytime it cut to those scenes, I lost interest

-they tended to toggle between the different storylines too often and at horrible times. For example, we start learning about Luke and what really went down at the Jedi Academy...then it cuts to Poe or Finn...Rey/Luke having a conversation, tension is building...aaaand then it cuts to Finn and Tico in the casino. I wished we could have had more scenes with Luke/Rey, but I understand they didn't want Luke overtaking the movie cause that could be too easy to happen

-Leia going superman in space was awkward. I like the idea of her using the force to save herself, but I think there could have been a better way for her to  do it rather than levitating herself thru space
-Finn/Tico ending was just cringeworthy...looks like Finn is gonna have heroic sacrifice....is saved and followed by awkward kiss
-Didn't see any Knights of Ren...I was looking forward to that, hopefully we see them in IX

There was a lot to take in after watching it. I didn't have any initial reaction to it, but as I thought about it throughout the day, I started to like it more. I think I'll get more out of it after I watch it for a second time

My favorite part of the movie is where Rey has a force vision about 12er coming in this thread and calling us all salty by posting the GIF of the rebel fighter taste testing the ground to confirm that its salt - NOT SNOW - so Disney can say hey looks guiz its NOT a rehash.

Lol I was thinking how lazy it was again. Newly aspiring jedi goes to old master for training, meanwhile lots of action on an 'ice planet'..................I wonder where I've seen this before.

Its just lazy. Just tell us its salt. When you make it that blatant, its just pandering. Its like Disney thinks all their fans are still little kids that will buy into anything theyre selling. Im surprised Luke didnt dab after he trolled Kylo or that Leia didnt throw on some Soulja Boy when she supermanned through space.

Not as good as what I was hoping.

-CGI was really good

-I really liked Poe's character development (didn't like he got demoted even though he keeps saving their a$$)

-Oscar Isaac is perfect for this role

-Was hoping to understand more about how Snoke came to be

-Thought Finn would have a bigger role

-Hard to watch Luke end this way given how he started

-Looks like we start all over again with except no one around to help guide those with The Force

-And why they didn't kill off Leia given Fisher's death is beyond my understanding

I lmao in the cinema and got a few looks. Some of Poe's dialogue got me too. 'Let's hope this big **** door holds' was a personal favourite, almost as beautiful as Anakin's take on sand.

Tbf Holdo's light speed kamikaze was one of the cooler scenes in any SW movie, the Praetorian fight was lit as well, and the last 10 minutes with Lukes death (binary sunset and the kids at the end) were perfect but it was too late at that point. Theyve made this whole trilogy around passing the torch to the 3 leads and i still have no fecking clue about any of them and dont care about back story now going into the 3rd movie. Poe is a terrible character who continually made chitty choices. Finn is wasted and Rey is pretty undeveloped. Crylo might be my favorite character by default.

my little cousins wanted to see it and currently my entire city is like an ice rink so it felt like a cinema day.

Seeing the way Snoke's killed off infuriated me even more even though I knew it was coming lol. Other than that it was a good second watch.

As a film that seems to be pandering to millenials and sjws I found it entertaining. The little bird things though hilarious just screamed merchandise. Kids will lap them little bastards up. It's like they planted minions in the movie

Covington posted a spoiler for TLJ and people were pissed.

His response

Saved you nerds 2h 33m of your virgin lives. You're welcome. Try something new, its ladies night. Go get laid. #starwars #LastJedi #MyHatersAreAllVirgins

He copied Sonnen. When hangover 2 came out, Sonnen said "he was in the elevator the whole time" or something similar. Covington not smart enough to be original.

My only problem with the movie really was that old love from JP could have just told everyone about the plan, and then saved Finn etc that wasted trip, then we could have gotten to the salt planet by halfway through the movie and The chinese random wouldn't have robbed finn of his beautiful death via piloting an unshielded rustbucket into a beam hot enough to melt his craft but he just breaks a sweat.

Anyhow, I actually liked that they killed snoke and his entire mysterious backstory. That's ballsy.

I can't believe they actually killed luke! It's refreshing that significant characters are actually dying for a change.

I'm pretty sure this is the first time we've seen drunk/senile yoda since TESB. He was such a miseryguts in rotj and a hardass in the prequels.

I was definitely surprised when they killed Snoke. They said "F U" to all those Snoke theories lol....now for the next two years we'll get all kinds of "Snoke is alive"..."Snoke isn't dead" theories...brace yourselves now

Seeing Yoda was just pure epicness

It almost seemed like they all saw how much discussion therewas for snoke and decided to use that intrigue to make kylo look good by having him killsnoke and steal all that hype. I did enjoy that kylo is doing what vader could never do and that’s overthrow the sith ruler and claim the position of power for himself.

In a way, if snoke’s mission as master was to train his student to be the most powerful he could be then snoke did a fantastic job!

I haven't cared about Star Wars since the original trilogy.

I am a huge sci-fi fan but I like pure sci-fi. Isaac Asimov was a god of the genre for me. The Star Wars form of ultra-commercial space cowboys drivel is just about the worst sci-fi I've encountered. Haven't even bothered with the last 3 movies.

Movie was ok.

The again leaned on the originals a bit to much.

Phasma was a joke.

Leia dying and resurrecting was a bigger joke.

Luke was a giant **** the whole movie.

The way they advertised it you would think they story was the greatest ever. Rogue One blew this one out of the water.

^^

-Finn was only a supporting character. wtf?

-Too many parallels with previous movies. Has this series jumped the shark?

-If you're going to kill off Luke, give him something more than just dying on a lonely rock.

-Don't introduce a seemingly important character only to have them die a stupid and meaningless death next movie.

- Not near enough light sabers.

If this is the way they're going to do it...it's probably my last one. I actually went home and watched Rogue One again to relieve all the rustle.

Obviously hasn't watched it

You're mad because Kylo cucked Snoke and proved himself way more alpha than Vader, who couldn't quit Palpatine until the very end.

I wonder how critics keep their jobs. Their opinion is different than the masses most of the time.

Because the masses are retarded simpletons.

Obviously better than Empire was hyperbole. I'm still trying to process everything that happened, but my only beefs with the film are the Leia floating scene, and Lukes uneventful death.

Snoke getting cucked like that was awesome. Anyone complaining about that is a moron. First of all, I want to point out that Kylo and Snoke were not Sith. The Sith died with Palpatine and Vader. That said, an apprentice killing his master is the way of the dark side. **** big daddy Palps killed his master in his sleep.

We don't need to know Snoke's backstory. That arc is about Kylo Ren rising to power and I'm not sure why you don't understand that.

I also loved how Luke just tossed the lightsaber away like trash after they built up that moment in the trailers so much. Rian is a GOAT troll.

Those are my initial thoughts. More to come later. Admittedly, I just left the theatre and I only slept about five hours. I need more time process this and I kind of want to go see it again with a good nights sleep.

Rian also cucked everyone by taking the argument that Phasma was wasted by doing the exact same thing with her this time and then killing her off.

Legendary trolling.

I'm not too upset about Snoke but there was too much comedy. Leia in space was so awful. Luke dying on a ****ing rock was awful. Everything with Fin and Rose was awful.

I liked the Luke "death" scene. How did people expect him to go out? Dude just dropped the most intergalactic troll known to the empire. Yoda died of old age, Obi Wan died a pacifist, Qui Gon Jinn got skrekt by some chitty move by someone with a chitty lightsaber/long staff. He went out a straight Baller compared to them 3.

I watched it again tonight and have to say I enjoyed it even more the second time around

People can complain all they want, this was a damn good movie

Kylo Ren again is my favorite character. Really enjoying his character development. Come at me crylo haters.

I was so happy when he forced choked Hux and shut him up. Was hoping he would do that in TFA but the way he did it here was satisfying

Okay, so I haven't seen the film again since Friday, but these things kind of percolate through my brain.  I still fundamentally enjoyed the film.  I'm also very happy to accept that one man's poison is another's treasure, so I'm not trying to convince anyone they're wrong, but here are my goods and bads.

The Good

  • Kylo's development.  They've managed to build complexity to the character and keep us guessing a little bit.  The interaction with Rey was quite compelling and they managed to avoid being too cringey, which was no mean feat.
  • Luke's death.  Sad to see him die of course, but to die whilst trolling the most powerful guy in the galaxy and saving the last remnants of the rebellion in the process is pretty awesome.  I don't care that he was sat on a rock whilst doing it; the consequences and impact of his death were way better than any other notable death in the series
  • Leia surviving.  Okay, the way it was shot was somewhat cheesy, but given that Fisher's dead, I was genuinely delighted that Leia lived to fight another day
  • Unpredictability.  Maybe I'm just a bit thick, but they managed to several times lure me into thinking they were going down the stock, predictable route and then throwing in a curve ball.  Kept me guessing right until the end.
  • The platform.  They can go anywhere they like now.  The rebellion was nearly crushed, the last hope (Rey) nearly killed....but they all survived.  Who knows what Episode IX has in store?

The bad

  • The Luke being dis-illusioned storyline.  Felt very lazy.  He's disillusioned because one of his students went bad.  Is that it?  Was hoping for something a bit deeper.
  • Finn/Poe.  I still don't really care about them very much.  I guess they're meant to be up there with Han/Lando but they're still not in the same league
  • Flitting between plausible and implausible.  It's sci-fi....I don't really mind things being a bit fanastic.  If you think too deeply, there are huge flaws throughout all 8 films so far regarding what can be done with the force, use of light sabers etc. etc. So I'm more than happy to suspend belief....consequently having a fairly major plot-line based on running out of petrol felt a bit.....naff.

Overall, still good stuff and I think they've paid suitable respect to the originals so far.

Some day, students will write case studies and thesis papers on the devisiveness of this movie. I understand why critics liked it. Easily the best graphics of the series and some of the best cinematography like the one take tracking shot in the casino from one end to ther other was great. I also get why people dont like this movie. But i cant figure out the Stans that like this movie. If youre real Stan, how does it not read like fan fiction when they ruined Luke. The guy that went to his presumed own certain death at the end of RotJ because he thought he could save his father, is now attempting to murder his own nephew in his sleep at the first sign of him being pulled to the dark side. Then hiding out from his mistakes, abandoning his family, friends, and the rebellion. And then when he finally does decide to do something, he still gives Leia and the Rebellion a hard meh and just sends a fecking hologram to troll Kylo, further pushing Kylo into the dark. "See you around kiddo" trolling Kylo is now the stupidest quote in the entire series for me. What he did was the equivalent of just sending Kylo a DM titled "I'm sorry Kylo" and then when Kylo clciks the link it's a Rick Roll troll face video. Lukes like, hey Rey I know o only showed you couple things on the island, none of them actually even saber skills at any point and i see youre dealing with your own pull to the dark but you got this right fam?

And apparently when Disney makes chitty decisions its "hilarious trolling" but when George does it, its just chitty? I look forward to future thesis papers on the gray area of of fans who are such Stans they love it but are also willing to overlook everything it ruined and undone. Or maybe they just own stock in Disney like i presume 12er does.

I quite enjoyed watching it.

I think it's possible to be a fan without being so emotionally invested in it that if a character deviates from our expected behaviours it ruins the entire film/franchise/world.

Trumps approval rating is higher than the audience rating of the last Jedi. Looks like it sucked. I'll wait til I can rent it.
