Quote from John: “It is always so hard to leave something you love, but I have always wanted to step away based on my terms rather than someone else’s. My goals are to work as hard as I can to meet the expectations everyone will have for me and to hopefully someday exceed them.”

Firing Jimmy Smith for Big John?

Great move. Reminds of that time the NFL fired John Madden and hired this SJW to color commentate...

They didn't fire Jimmy Smith.

Jimmy Smith didn't accept the money they were offering him.

Not sure what is suprising...hes always been vocal about mma ongoings, he makes peanuts as a ref and he doesnt seem to be camera shy. Perfect fit I think...just have to see how he does in the booth since not anyone can do that.

From the way he described it on Helwani's show yesterday, it didn't sound like the offer way like incredibly low, or anything, but apparently it was lower than what he had been making.

His contract was up, so ultimately if they wanted to get rid of him, they could've just said "we're getting rid of you".

yeah and also he was free to test waters a few months back so prob already knew he had a chance with the UFC already.

Color commentator??  I have never heard Big John commentate before but apparently Bellator has seen him in action.  Why not?  Probably better pay and much easier job.

I can't see him being all that bad.. I mean he certainly knows what's going on

Right, he definitely knows the technical aspect but I wasnt sure how he would be with keeping the conversation flowing. Obviously they have confidence if they hired him on the spot

He’s on a lot of MMA talk shows he should do fine. I feel like it’s a better fit for him because I feel when he’s reffing he interjects himself in the fights way to much

nobody will ever die during or because of a GSP fight.... We all only wish he had AIDS, and even if he was infected, he barely ever finishes from man on man action anyways.

if big jon didnt stop the fight, bisping would be dead bro.   gsp wasnt letting go of that choke and bisping was already out

he literally saved the mans life.

i dont see why that would be a burn.   wishing gsp had aids?  wow thats so hilarious.   that would be a shame if he did because he would have spread it to all of your favorite fighters after they spent 25 minutes tossing GSP's salad, and then you would be hating on him even more!

They also hire geriatric fighters simply for their name....
