UFC Olympics....

Wouldn't it be pretty cool if every 4 years Dana would make a UFC card that had country vs country during the Olympics of course and the winning country of that card would move on to fight the winning country of another card? Or do you think it's stupid idea. Discuss!

The Olympics always had a format flaw. It was based on nationalism.

Why follow such a fatally flawed format?

Why not have an MMA Olympics every 4 years, based on weight divisions? And have a tournament-style elimination process over say, 14 days? With previous Olympic qualifying elimination rounds?

In order to qualify for these special fights, there must be Olympic qualifying fights. Leading up to the main event, stage elimination events, 8 weeks out, leading up to the Main Event.

Start with the Top 32 fighters in each weight class. After the first elimination round, you're down to 16 fighters. Two week later, have the second elimination fights. All the elimination qualifyer fights should be 2-round fights. After the second round of elimination rounds, you're down to 8 fighters.

So, now, with 8 fighters advancing to the Olympic MMA Main Event, you're ready to go.

The Main Event should be a 14-day process.

After the first quarter final, you have 4 fighters left standing. After the first semi-final, you're down to the 2 finalists, ready to contest for the Gold Medal. The Semis & Final should be 5-rounds. Have no draws. Sudden Victory rounds until a winner is declared.

Here would be a suggested timeline for such a process.

Olympic elimination qualifying rounds.

June 1, first elimination fight.

June 7, second elimination fight.

June 14, last elimination fight.

8-week interval

Olympic Main Event

August 16, first Olympic quarter final.

August 23. semi-final Olympic fight.

September 1, Olympic Final fight.
