Enigma_Machine
As a coach on the ultimate fighter?
artvandelay-1
First fight pick. You pick a guy that you can beat then you keep picking the fights and build some momentum. Mayhem picked guys who are good on the ground which in my opinion is easier to train in a short amount of time. You can give guys little tricks and positions that can help their ground game in a short period. Standup guys are pretty set in their ways, if the are doing something wrong or have bad standup habits then they are hard to break. Also when you have the guy on the ground (especially in their own corner) the coach can literally walk you through the whole fight. It also helps when your fighters actually listen (Bass)
Pigs-On-The-Wing
easily first fighter matchup... Time and time again we see the first pick losing in the first round. Matchups and styles will always trump the overall skill of a fighter at that level.
Jbrahams
First fight, ffs, have these coaches never seen previous episodes?

I_Am_Paul
Most of the time, the coach that picks the first fight, is usually the most successfull in my own humble opinion. No matter how bad a** the first pick appears to be, styles make matches, and getting the first fight gives you that call and advantage.

Enigma_Machine
unless there's one fighter that's like Cain Velasquez (young fit well rounded) and the rest are Kimbo types (old one dimensional injured and out of shape) I'd take the first fight as well. Enigma_Machine
Something to think about, When Tito and Chuck were coaching, Tito decided to get the first fighter, which was Nick Ring who beat Court McGee before pulling out due to injury, and McGee ended up winning the wildcard slot and eventually the whole tournament. Chute_Boxe_Champion
first fighter is someone where you can get (most of the time) your top two picks into the quarters/semi's but nine times out of ten the coach who gets the first fight pick has more fighters in the quarters so i guess it comes down to if you would rather get one or two better fighters then your opponent or you pick the matchups that best suit your weaker guys skills
LW4MMA
Have to agree with the majority, first fight (and subsequent wins). It's possible that you'll get your #1 pick anyways.
