The greatest of all time

Recommended Posts

If I say, "The greatest of all time" who or what comes to your mind?

No right or wrong answer here, just curious to see what people's natural reaction to that phrase is...

As in GOAT in their respective sports ?

Could be sport, could be a car or a phone. I don't care, I'm just interested to see what people associate with "greatest."

No such thing comes to mind.

Time doesn't exist and even if were going on how we try to understand time it would be more accurate to say "The greatest so far"

:D

Exactly! Time is continuous. If you're labeling something the GOAT you're saying that nothing better will surface. In a historical sense, that is always false.

Swimmers are usually incredible athletes because of their ability to coordinate all their limbs in controlled, unified motions. I used to play football, basketball, baseball, soccer, ran track, and swam. Swimming was by far the most technically difficult.

No doubt swimming is a tough sport, I'm not exactly a strong swimmer, maybe 400 yards or so but any farther and I'll probably just drowned. But being the 'best swimmer' is on equal grounds as being the 'best cricket player' its not as notable.

Edit: based on popularity anyways.

How about "only athlete to ever win 8 gold medals in a single Olympic games?"

That works lol. But how about we go "Only athlete to ever win 8 gold medals in a single Olympic games and then not be mentioned news wise for the most part of the next 3 years?"

Only times I've heard about him is when he got caught with the bong and when he was beat in some random race.

He's amazing at what he does no doubt though.

He's a subway spokesman, LOL. But I do get what you're saying. Swimming is very much a niche sport for fans.

Haha, but so is Jared. Yeah, swimmers are incredibly talented but I can't justify watching a swimming match.

LOL all this controversy over Phelps!!! the only reason i put any of these up here is because they came off the top of my head!!! Phelps did at one time consume 12,000 calories a day during his olympic training and maintained an 8% body fat!!! that takes WORK!!!!!!
