Should I get a Mac?

Hey guys, as some of you may know, I start college this week.

I will need a new computer to succeed as a graphic designer and many people said that Macs were the best while others said they were overrated.

One thing I need to know is if it's as easy to install "hacked" software as it is in regular PCs, because I can't afford to pay $300+ for all the licenses I will need (Photoshop and that ****)

I appreciate your input :)

If you are used to PC i wouldn't do it and no you don't need a Mac for graphics and alot of programs don't run as well on Mac and updates, development etc. usually takes longer.

I don't know if it's easier to install stuff but i've heard Mac's are more a pain if you want to dig around under the hood so to speak.

I heard that too, that's why I was worried.

And I also heard that for the price you pay for a Mac you can get a pretty damn good PC

Thanks for your input bro

I appreciate that but can you make a better argument? What are the advantages?

I know they don't get viruses' date=' what more[/b']?

This will change when they get more popular which is already happening and yes they can get viruses.

The reason PC's get more viruses is because they have controlled the market for a long time and hackers have spent more time looking at PC's exploits. It's not that Mac doesn't have vulnerabilities.

End of day its whatever you like best. But as a tech student myself, I say go with the new retina. If you can afford it of course. Apple just seems to lend to the techie side more.

here is some of my hacked programs....real easy...Adobe master collection cs5

That's great and I had that at school but I talked to an Apple employee and he told me that if you install hacked stuff you may end up banned from downloading any official apps or something like that

And thanks @BJJnoob for your post

Im a PC guy first and foremost and that has to do with my video game addiction. My desktop is a custom gaming rig. So my heart is and will always be with windows.

However, since becoming a tech student I finally see all the advantages of OSX and apple in general. You will see when you become a student. There is so much more "built in" user friendly techie stuff with apple.

You are going to be a tech student. Get an apple IMO. Especially since you are doing web design. They got all kinds of cool apps and **** for that. And the retina will make your work that much better.

Mac is all about the brand and overly pricing the product just based on the brand. I've tried and seen both, the Macs look good very nice design. But that's it. Any other laptop that's about a grand or more is just as good as the 3 grand macs. If you want o spend that and you're a label ***** go for it homez

Haha, you're not making it easy for me.

I keep reading different arguments but I believe that just proves that there really isn't much of a difference between them.

Thanks to everyone that posted, much appreciated

In this day and age, you simply can't say one is better than the other, period. If anybody says otherwise, they are blind fans. Both systems get the job(s), done, neither better than the other, for anything.

I've used both professionally for art and music production, both work. There is nothing "techie", that Apple can do that PC can't and vice versa, end of discussion.

There is one place and one place only that Apple actually gets an edge, and that is being more user friendly (read, for idiots), but even dummies can use the Windows OS. Make that two edges for less viruses, though I never have issues on PC, just be smart.

If Windows is what you know, stick with it, especially if you are going to used cracked/hacked software. All this **** is still made in China, no need to pay an extra grand (minimum), for nothing more than a name brand.

This is an objective opinion because I prefer Linux over the other two anyway, but I'm a windows guy because I'm poor and like gaming too much.

Too me, it's about not giving more money to the filthy, stinking rich. IMO, pay a smaller company for a good computer, gank the OS, but try to pay the little guy for software and games if you can. Gank whenever you can from MNCs.

People like to talk about Steve Jobs with such reverence, dude was a scumbag when it came down to it.

i wouldn't get a mac my gf had one and sold it like 3 weeks later there very annoying to deal with. We also tried to install windows as a lot of programs won't run on Macs without it and it messed up the computer we had to go back to apple and have the restore it which took over 2 hours cause almost no one there knew wtf to do and we had to wait for some other guy to come in. You would think for a 2.5k computer everything would be kind of easy

If you really feel that way why not use linux.

@UFC

I was just thinking even though you're used to PC and like it you might be better off getting a Mac if for nothing else being efficient at both. It's a big plus to know both.

I don't have the time for Linux now, plus I'm less of a computer geek. The main reason I got in to Linux was to be anti-conformist (thinking I was cool), now I just don't give a ****, lol. You have a very valid point about being efficient at both though, if the career path calls for it.
