Hells_Bartender
So the UFC doesn't allow a fighters coach to throw in the towel like other combat events. Just watched the Jarred Hamman fight from the weekend and that fight needed to be stopped. There has been other fights like this but they elude me right now. Should it be allowed? Hells_Bartender
It is allowed' date=' they choose not to it seems.[/quote'] It's against the rule bro -Taken from the official UFC Rules and Regulations 13. Stopping Contest Return to Top The referee is the sole arbiter of a contest and is the only individual authorized to stop a contest. The referee may take advice from the ringside physician and/or the Commission with respect to the decision to stop a contest. The referee and the ringside physician are the only individuals authorized to enter the ring/fighting area at any time during competition other than the rest periods and subsequent to the contest ending. Manho
They have thrown the towel in before' date=' UFC 3 I think [/quote'] There weren't any unified rules in MMA during that time. The sport of MMA has come a long way since then.

I remember that John McCarthy wanted more control because not enough cornerman were stopping fights when the ref couldnt, didnt realise they gave the ref the control completely with the Dr.

You think it's a good idea? I'm torn. Part of me thinks the corner man should be able to help their guy out if there getting smashed because they know there fighter and their capabilities better than anyone. Another part of me thinks it should be the fighters choice to fight on for prides sake. Edgar's corner wanted to stop the fight in the second Gray fight and look what happened. You need to balance it out I think. The corner should know the fighter better than anyone and should know if their fighter is in serious danger so they should have the option. Its difficult to say, really is. Look at Munoz fight. If I was on the corner and had a towel, it would have gone in A LOT sooner than the ref stoppage. In boxing, the towel can be thrown in but the ref has the final word Good question
SolidStateLogic
The refs usually do a good job of stopping the fight.
GeorgeStSilva
I'm pretty sure it is allowed the ref just doesn't have to listen to it.
WarWest®
Yeah I think so I think fighters can be so disoriented that they don't know what is happening and take a huge amount of damage I'm for it Bring it on gay people

Pessimist_Pete
If a fighter is getting destroyed and his corner throws in the towel, then the ref is going to stop the fight. Plain and simple. This thread is mad gay yo
StocktonStrangler420
Still the fighter has to agree right? Grease rained down some heavy grounded strikes. He was impossible to control and Penn wasn't asked if he wanted the fight stopped. His brother told the ref "We're stopping it"
