RodrigoRua
Simple to understand. Obviously UFC would use Fox as a good tool to promote the brand and/or upcoming event and fighters as well. However I have noticed that UFC on Fox has actually determine #1 contenders and definying title shots. Which is good and interesting for us to "figure and guess" who would have a title shot next. CAIN VS JDS: No comments. That was a "welcome card" and the winner of BEND VS GUIDA got the title shot. EVANS VS DAVIS: Evans beat Davis and got the shot at Jones and Sonnen beat Bisping and consolidate his crack at Anderson. DIAZ VS MILLER: Diaz beat Miller and now he will have his chance at the belt. SHOGUN VS VERA: We all know whoever would win in most impressing fashion would have a shot as well. My points here are 2. First of all, UFC never told us (fans) that UFC on Fox was going to pretty much define #1 contenders (except last UFC on Fox event) other than that the "promotion" wasnt very clear. So based on this "UFC on Fox" path, could Sonnen have a title shot at LHW champion at the moment (Jones, Machida or Hendo) considering that the winner of Shogun/Gus get hurt (assuming these 2 guys will fight for #1 contender on UFC ON FOX GOT IT ?). So lets say, Shoguns beats Gus, then stays out for like 10 month due to his knees ... by the same time, on the same event, Sonnen demolish and impress everyone against Forrest ... so could Sonnen be a second option to replace Shogun/Gus winner in case of injury ?? Its pretty obvious UFC on Fox winners (main event and co-main event) are being placed on title shots ... not mentioning that Sonnen already became a "best seller" inside MMA PLUS bad mouthing Jones has happened already ..... go figure Thoughts

newyorkgiant1
I would be very curious to see if Sonnen could take down Bones being that he has a 100% tdd percentage. If not it could be a very painful night for Sonnen.

If not it could be a very painful night for Sonnen. I know. I really dont think Sonnen has a chance versus Jones but the title shot at the LHW champion is very possible if you follow the UFC on Fox path, right ? So far, every mai event and co main event had had a title shot. Considering that Shogun/Gus could get hurt .... Sonnen would come to the picture then ? Nyte
Sonnen is not fighting on the UFC on Fox 5 card though, but other than that I agree. So far the fox cards have been deciding #1 contenders or are title fights. I wouldn't be surprised if he got a title shot with just one win in the LHW division. If anything he should fight the winner of shogun/gus for #1 contender. No reason seeing Shogun get demolished again. Gus or Sonnen would be an interesting matchup for Jones. bssite
I can't see Sonnen being as successful at 205. He better pray for his life that he gets some impressive submissions because his standup just isn't good enough to get him anywhere with the big boys at
Lumpinee_Assasin
He'll beat Gump and then they'll feed him Gus who lost to Davis Via wrasslin'...He beats a former champ and someone with major hype and voila Title Shot

Some interesting fights nevertheless
StompGrind
Chael should just save himself the trouble and retire already. He will never hold UFC gold and he said himself if he can't win gold he doesn't want to continue fighting. If UFC gifts him a shot at Jones he will get destroyed badly. If he has to work his way up he will see just how tough the LHW division really is. He will never make it to a title shot cause he can't beat any of the top contenders either. The same exactly way they fed Sonnen with Stann (no ground game) and Bisping (ok but not great ground game) to make Sonnens title shot legit at Anderson on that moment. Curious to see if UFC would matchup Lil NOg vs Sonnen based on what Sonnen said about Nogs brother BBJ black betl .... or curious to see if they would promote Sonnen vs Machida

If Sonnen loses to the next person they feed him whether it be Gus or Shogun (Realistically just has a sloppy leg lock and he'd gas in wrasslin) they'll probably pin him up against Lil Nog as a grudge super fight of sorts and then try to get him in the mix by saying he beat a legend.
King_Can
............................ ........ ... .... really winner of shogun and Gustaffson gets it... you don't get a shot after losing to anderson silva twice and beating forrest griffin........ no matter how much trash you can talk. Lulz i get what u mean but uncle Dana will try to pin him up with Gus or maybe even shogun depending on how he looks if he wins...They both have the ground game that would see them lose to a wrassler like Sonnen. Theoretically he'd say "He moves up and beats Forrest a former LHW champ and then beats Shogun a legend/ Gus a hot prospect who was on a tear in the division" then give him a shot lol Uncle dana be cray cray
LuseFan
See, these guys get it. Dana's trying to build a star, all the wrong way. He wanted first to cement Andy as the #1 Pound for Pound of all time, because he couldn't convince Fedor to fight under the Zuffa yoke. So out of nowhere comes this Chael punk talking smack on Anderson, almost beats Anderson, easily beats Stann, then gets gifted a fixed win against Bisping to get an Anderson rematch. Well Andy did what Andy does, and we have an undisputed P4P champion at MW! So then Chael gets his first fight at 205 against the least motivated and skilled LHW in the game today in Forrest. That's a gimmie now, if ever there is one. The problem will be figuring out if Shogun is going to be off for his next fight or not, and then line Chael up with 'gun, Lil Nog, or Gus from there. Because when the guy who pushed the P4P great to his limit gets WRECKED by Jones (fixed fight naturally, gotta love those mob ties) shortly before Andy retires, it automatically makes Jones the P4P best ever! Go ahead an insert tinfoil memes here now for quote. I know you will, even though deep down inside you can feel the dark side and know it to be true! JonesyUK
No. Apart from the fact that Sonnen is fighting on the December 29th PPV, the timing and other fights happening means it makes no sense... 1.) Machida is current no1 contender to fight the winner of JBJ/Hendo. There are no remaining cards this year for that fight to headline, therefore we wont be seeing that until probably Jan'13. 2.) Shogun vs Gus is a virtual cert to be a No1 contenders fight for the winner of Machida vs Hendo/JBJ. It makes perfect sense too. 3.) The Glover Teixiera vs Rampage fight probably has more relevance to the title race than Sonnen/Griffin... I fight between the winners of these fights makes sense though. 4.) Until Evans makes a firm announcement of moving down to MW, he is still rankings wise in a lot better position than Sonnen/Griffin. I wouldnt be surprised if he is waiting to see who wins the Hendo/JBJ fight to decide tbh... If Hendo wins I think for sure he will stay at LHW and go after a marquee fight to get him right back in the title picture. If JBJ wins, think he will move down
Pengu
He.might be able to take Jones down. the dude isn't scared to engage and push forward so he might get his hands on Jones. Same goes with Hendo. I think Jones will try take Hendo down to drop his.confidence because he got taken down by a wrestler less accomplished even though MMA wrestling is different. eselockster
Don't see why not only person In mw who's beat him recently is the champ, imo with an impressive win over one of the bigger lhw's should fast track him on not a title then someone in top
MMAJess
Forrest isn't exactly in position to be considered the gatekeeper to a title shot. In order to get his shot, Chael should have to fight someone in the top 3, and Forrest is no longer even in the top 10.
Moony
There are only so many contenders Jones hasn't beaten down. Sonnen is fast enough to make it interesting.
daweedy
I have serious doubt that Sonnen will be able to beat Grifin. LHW divison is much much more talented than MW. It only looks otherwise beacuse Jones is so dominant.
