For all those defending Jones, remember...

Shogun took the fight against him on short notice, at the time Jones was a young up-and-comer coming off a win over a barely top ten Ryan Bader !!!

He and Greg talk about the fight not being worth the risk, but how is it risky taking this fight baring in-mind that Jones is coming off a FULL fight camp whilst Sonnen would have NO fight camp to prepare and is basically a 185lber

Everything about this favoured the champ, he is just being an **** because of all the recent Twitter banter between him and Sonnen where he stated that he would never grant Sonnen a title shot and that he was undeserving.

Rick Story and Charlie Brenneman took a fight on 24 hours notice.

Bisping fought Sonnen in a title eliminator on 8 days notice, the loss knocked him back down the line...

You cant defend it, you really cannot.

That's actually a great point Jonesy.

Serious BS.

You could understand Shogun turning down Jones back then, after-all he was getting the shot coming off a win over Ryan Bader and was just 23 !

There is no sense in Jones turning down Sonnen or Weidman, no excuse is good enough, NONE

If Shogun fought Jones with 2 weeks notice, doesn't that mean Jones also took a fight with 2 weeks notice? Can we really expect him to keep doing that, especially now that he's the champ?

I don't like that he turned it down, but Chael is a COMPLETELY different style fighter than Hendo, and requires a completely different kind of training/preparation for the fight. If it were someone with a similar style to Hendo that would mostly stand & throw, I'd definitely say he should take the fight. But training for 2-3 months to fight a striker, then changing to fighting a wrestler with 8 days' preparation is pretty risky for a champion

All of those examples aren't even anywhere near the same galaxy as this problem.

The only one that can even come close is the Shogun example and at that time, JBJ was on a tear (if not for the Hammil fight), so he deserved that shot.

And he proved he deserved that shot time and time again.

Sonnen is the one who's getting rushed to the title again beacuse of his big mouth, after he looked like crap in his last two fights in a lighter division how on earth does he deserve a title let alone before even fighting Griffin? A guy who btw would get mauled by Jones but has a win over Sonnen.

Absolutely can defend that. Rua Taking Jon on short notice did not even have any risks remotely close to what Jon would be risking(aside from the belt...and losing to a rising star like Jon is not embarrasing)...That was Rua's first title defense after beating Machida and no where near Tito's title defense record. You had Jones who had been demolishing everyone and was very deserving of the shot at Rua.

Here we have Jones, what 2 fights away from the record, who has everything to risk being that his ultimate goal is to break the title defense record. Sonnen has proved he is a force at 185 and has done nothing at 205 yet. Deserving of a shot JUST because he SAID he would fight? I don't think so.

imo if a champion can't beat anyone on any given day he is not a real champ

What?

How is he a COMPLETELY different fighter

They are training buddies at Quest and both come from a wrestling background, but Hendo also happens to have the H-Bomb.

You also telling me that the largest 205er cant handle the wrestling of a 185lber
