A rescheduled bout between heavyweights Matt Mitrione (5-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) and Rob Broughton (15-7-1 MMA, 1-2 UFC) is off once again.

Now fellow Brit Phil De Fries (9-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) steps in to fight Mitrione at UFC 155, officials today announced.

UFC 155 takes place Dec. 29 in Las Vegas at a venue to be announced. The event's main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and Facebook.

Mitrione and Broughton originally were scheduled to meet at UFC on FOX 4 this past month. But Broughton was scratched from the bout due for personal reasons, and the bout was moved to UFC on FX 5 on Oct. 5 in Minneapolis.

It is unclear why Broughton was removed from the bout. The Brit had dropped his past two bouts against Browne and De Fries, respectively, following a win in his octagon debut against Vinicius Queiroz at UFC 120.

Mitrione, a former NFL player, most recently was outpointed by Cheick Kongo at UFC 137, which snapped a five-fight win streak and took him out of title contention. He emerged on the national MMA stage with a stint on "The Ultimate Fighter 10" and made it to the semifinals of the reality show.

De Fries most recently appeared at UFC on FOX 4, where he submitted Oli Thompson on the event's preliminary card. That put him back on the right foot after a knockout loss to Stipe Miocic at UFC on FUEL TV 1.

The latest UFC 155 card includes:

Champ Junior Dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez - for heavyweight title*

Forrest Griffin vs. Chael Sonnen*

Joe Lauzon vs. Gray Maynard

Phil De Fries vs. Matt Mitrione
