Any point to Silva vs GSP????

What does this match up actually prove?

Is it just to pit to of the best fighters in the sport together?

I dont see the point to give one of these fighters a loss on their record they dont really deserve.

It makes more sense for one of these guys to go up/down in class and actually compete for the title....a one off catch weight fight to determine nothing and put a loss on a current champions record for the $$$ is pointless.

I guess it's to prove who the P4P champ really is? I don't know. It'll be fun to watch though.

Dont worry. This fight is only happening if GSP loses to Condit.

If GSP beats Condit, this fight will be put off for a while.

It doesn't really prove anything. Everybody damn near knows that Anderson Silva will win that fight. It'll just hurt GSP's reputation so he shouldn't take that fight.

I think Andy will take it too. He just pulls though and wins all the time, so matter what his opponents skill set or mindset is, Anderson just find a way to win.

Thats why I said: "GSP will fight Anderson if he loses the fight with Condit".

Fighting Anderson and maybe winning will be his shorter way to regain legacy.

to prove and accomplish everything you can possibly imagine in the UFC.

Best P4P

largest UFC gate record

largest PPV buy rate record

largest stadium audience attendance

sponsorships

history

something every fan and fighter truly wants to see

only good things can come out of a super fight this big. Even on the losers side, they can say they were involved in the competition to see who truly the best is and falling in 2nd place wouldnt hurt one bit.

Great post. However, I think it would hurt Silva's legacy if he loses, since GSP will be moving up to face him.

Well Silva has never faced top wrestling EVER until he faced Sonnen. However Sonnen is a bit over rated even in the wrestling.GSP is a huge question mark right now.The GSP of 3-4 years ago was the best wrestler in the UFC but since he has spent too much time honing his stand up and not wrestling as much.

IMO he does not recover well from even one punch so he would probably lose.If he gets his wrestling back in gear with maybe a couple fights of pure wrestling first, i think Silva would then fake an injury.

Silva wants the NOW GSP the one that didn't wrestle at all with Jake and not much with Kos either.Take the wrestling out of GSP and he is a VERY average fighter. So is 90% of the UFC full of average fighters but Silva is not.

I love this match IF GSP gets two fights full of wrestling, otherwise i lean 60-40 to Silva.

You guys are worried about who will get a blemish on their record? Pathetic. I'm here to watch fights' date=' especially big ones. If you aren't GTFO.[/quote']

its how ignorant people are seriously. you think people were fedor fans early in his career? HELL no. all these teenage fedor ****s and machida ****s just saw the record and said oh man this guy is the greatest because he hasnt lost! machida you can argue because he was man enough to join the UFC early in his career but both shogun fights showed us what record really means lol. abosolutely nothing. nobody would give two ****'s if fedor had a record of 25-6 even if he was destroying former has been champs.

You forgot one thing:

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

This fight would be by far the biggest payday for both fighters, and the biggest PPV event ever for the sport. And that is really the point.

How can anyone ask what the point is to this fight? The fight is in it of itself it's own point. That's like asking why people wanted to see Joe Frazier face Muhammad Ali, or why people are always enthralled to watch Federer face Nadal. This is at the end of the day a sport, I realize it is dominated by a single company who's financial interest at at stake, but the desire to see two of the greatest of all time face off one-on-one is perhaps the most basic element of being a fan of a sport.

Besides, Silva has only a couple of fights left (he's talked about wanting to retire young for years) and GSP's legacy is, perhaps unfairly, questioned quite a bit. Both have something to prove. And when you have the top two face each other, despite what some hyperbolic fan reactions would suggest, most people accept that being the second best on earth isn't a bad place to be. I think most rational followers of the sport will be able to look at a loss, from either man, as a perfectly acceptable defeat and one that won't tarnish the overall legacy of their careers.
