Lhw is a mess at the moment. No title line really !!!

Hendos injury, UFC 151 cancelation, Machida declining a title shot (that is another issue and I agree with Machida) and Jones ducking Sonnen made the LHW division became a mess in my opinion.

Its almost like LHW is not really lined up for title shots so whoever makes the best impression for the public gets a title shot (just remember Machida vs Bader on FOX). Whoever talks more gets a title shot (Sonnen) whoever is healthy gets a title shot LOL.

I will get a link (sorry its in portuguese but you can translate with a software) where Dana is saying that "If ppl want to see Jones vs Sonnen than I will arrange it". Im sure most of you had seen Dana saying that couple days ago. Which pretty much makes me wonder that If Sonnen beats Forrest, Sonnen would then take a shot at Jones next (considering Jones beats Vitor, of course). I would go as far as seen Sonnen vs Forrest canceled (for any bs reason) so Sonnen keeps himself healthy for Jones vs Sonnen on superbowl weekend ... seriously !!

Apparently, Machida already lost that "ticket" for a title shot when he declined replacing Hendo ... I even heard the possiblity of Machida vs Evans 2 for a #1 contender matchup in early 2013.

Questions then:

1. Who is next for winner Jones/Vitor ?

2. Will Machida vs Hendo happen for #1 contender ?

3. Wouldnt Shogun vs Gus be a #1 contender on the first place ?

4. Do you think Sonnen will be granted title shot after beating Forrest ?

5. If Cornier comes to UFC on 205 after Nov ... will he then be the #1 contender ?

Of course you dont have to answer all these questions to me but if you answer it to yourself you will notice LHW is a mess with no criteria, ranking or title shot line ups.

Wouldnt be surprised Phil Davis gets a title shot after beating Wagner Prado LOL ...

Hendo and Machida are at the front of the line for sure' date=' then there is Shogun, Gus, Sonnen, Teixiera and perhaps even Magalhaes later down the line[/i']

2. Will Machida vs Hendo happen for #1 contender ?

It seems the most logical, but then again there is still that possibility of holding Machida and Shogun back to do TUF Brazil next year with the rubber match being a title eliminator

3. Wouldnt Shogun vs Gus be a #1 contender on the first place?

I would say yes from one point of view, but then again no because I dont see how either guy deserves to leapfrog Hendo, especially bearing in mind their fight is not until December, when Hendo is likely to be ready to compete again.

4. Do you think Sonnen will be granted title shot after beating Forrest ?

No, a win over Griffin is in no way title shot worthy anymore and there is no way that Dana/UFC could sell us Sonnen over any of the above mention guys. Sonnen vs the winner of Shogun/Gus in a title eliminator is acceptable though

5. If Cornier comes to UFC on 205 after Nov ... will he then be the #1 contender ?

He will definately be an exciting new option for UFC's marketing machine. Personally, I would rather he fought a title eliminator first... The timing of the Shogun/Gus and Sonnen/Griffin fights makes for some interesting possibilities...

Wouldnt be surprised Phil Davis gets a title shot after beating Wagner Prado LOL I really think Wagner scared the **** out of him in the NC fight and is likely to KO him TBH! But either way, the winner is certainly up there, but I think a fight against the winner of undefeated Nedkov and T.Silva is a better fit ...

Hope that is what your looking for

I'd like to see Machida/Evans 2 for number 1 contender. I'd also like to see Sonnen get rewarded for stepping up at 151 if he beats Forrest, but I honestly think Jones is just too big for Chael. As far as Cormier, I think he would have to have at least one high level fight at 205 before he is the number 1 contender.

I just dont wanna see Machida and Evans take each other out at this stage, plus one is coming off a win and the other off a loss, so its rare for UFC to pair up that way.

I would love to see Evans vs Cormier at 205, but more realistic is Evans vs Lil Nog

Middle Weight is the same way.

They are having to throw guys at Anderson Silva who didn't earn a title shot simply because there is no one else left' date=' and they can't keep throwing the same guys at him over and over.[/quote']

Agreed.

Belcher, Weidman, Boestch, Stann, Bisping (one will be eliminated on 9/22 from the list) and Lombard are the only top guys who never fought Anderson and they really dont deserve it just yet !!!

The only guy who could possibily SELL a fight with Anderson would be Bisping but not because he can beat Anderson but because ppl want to see Bisping getting Koed LMAO

If they match Weidman up with Belcher and he runs through Belcher the way he did again Munoz, people will be pretty pumped to see Weidman/Silva.

Yeah, I seen Dana White talking just the other day about who ever wins between Bisping/Stann having a chance at fighting Silva and thinking "hmm, Chael just beat both of these guys, and probably could beat them again." But they can't just keep throwing Chael at Silva, and even the loser of Bisping/Stann will eventually get his title shot because there won't be anyone else left. In Middle Weight you don't have to convince them that you are ready for a title shot by winning a lot of fights in a row (like you do in other weight divisions), you just have to wait your turn basically.

I guess LHW is even worse because they have to go down to 185 division to find contenders for 205 (Vitor, Chael etc. lol)

Agree but the problem is that Silva got in a situation right now where he literally decides what he wants !!!

Anderson will make Weidman beat these guys first: Shields, Belcher and Vitor. Mark my words.

The only fight Silva wants/accepts ATM would be Bisping because that would be an extremely easy fight for Anderson in any aspect of the game.

If GSP wasn't injured for the past year+, welterweight would likely be in the same boat. The problem with 'just throwing guys at him that he hasn't beaten' is that the UFC has no ranking system, so we really don't know where these other guys stand, or what is the real quality of competition that they faced. The UFC really needs to correct this, it's causing way too many problems.

...and Silva would be right to do so. Weidman needs to beat at least one or two well-known, highly ranked opponents before he gets a title shot IMO. But again, without a real ranking system, it's hard to know.

Soooooooooooo true, but it'll never happen.

They need to promote fools like Bork and Kimbo to sell some tickets.

Well, I think WW is actually well organized or simpler to make up this "title line".

But yes I agree. PPL are getting title shots out of the blue. I remember not too long ago (like 3 years ago or less) any fighter would need a minimum of 3 win streak to get a title shot.

This is not happening at the moment. Guys with big name are getting title shots very easily. Come on, we just saw Shogun with an opportunity of a title shot by beating Vera !! and Machida who just lost to Jones having the same opportunity.

Look at Edgard. He just lost his belt like last month and now he is already fighting for another belt !! Ridiculous.

If there is a lack of competitors, ok so make a eliminator program kinda of.

My friend, I keep on saying this and nobody believe me: Sonnen will get a crack at Jones next just because of the whole thing with UFC 151 and Jones .. mark my words.

You know who is going to creep up the ladder? The Canadian,it only worries me that he gets no respect from anyone ,including the UFC,so one loss might vault him right out of the picture.Reason i like him is because unlike many other lucky fighters,he has very good skill and cardio and quickness for a LHW.

I didn't mention his name for a reason,to prove how little respect he gets, many probably don't even know who i am talking about.

One other Canadian and we all know him already by his sheer size is Carmont. He says his weight cutting goes better than he thought it would to make 185,but Rumble thought the same thing 3-4 years ago.I believe Carmont will eventually end up at 205 and he will be one SCARY opponent for ANYONE,anywhere, any style.

1. Who is next for winner Jones/Vitor ?

Hendo if Jones wins' date=' Shogun if Vitor wins[/b']

2. Will Machida vs Hendo happen for #1 contender ?

It should

3. Wouldnt Shogun vs Gus be a #1 contender on the first place ?

No. Shogun would do nothing different in a re match with Jones and Gus doesn't have enough big wins

4. Do you think Sonnen will be granted title shot after beating Forrest ?

Dana says no now, but he prob will. I think if victorious against Griff, Sonnen should fight Lil Nog :D

5. If Cornier comes to UFC on 205 after Nov ... will he then be the #1 contender ?

Anybody can be a No 1 contender now so I wouldn't be surprised. Rashad should be his debut fight

...
