The Collectors Thread

So I was going through some of my junk the other day and realised that I'm probably on my way to becoming a hoarder. my room is now completly full and i'm going to have to take it easy for a while.

I have over the years started many collections that are ongoing and I was wondering what the community members collect, but more importantly I would also like to know some of the stories behind these collections.

I have a collection of various coins that was started by my father and given to me to continue, with around 100 coins, dont care about any monetary value its just cool to continue something he started, and i one day hope to pass it on to my own child.

Around 100 transformer toys. As a kid this was my favourite show, and i was pretty lucky as i was given quite a few that were lost or destroyed over the years. Started collecting them about 10 years ago because i'm still a big kid at heart

A large collection of swords, knives and various other pieces, including two knives that were hand made for me and two swords also hand made for me. My best friend throughout school became a bladesmith and after 10 years has refined his craft to the point that his pieces are works of art, and i'm honoured to be counted his friend.

I also collect musical instruments and equipment, because you can never have enough.

So if you got through all that I'm interested to know what you collect and the story behind it.

If I have my stamps I'm not sure where they are ... they have been missing for some 8 years ... They possibly got tossed when a friend was helping me empty a storage facility ... i don't think I had anything of huge value .. just sentimental .. I used to set for hours with my grandpa sorting stamps, mounting stamps, etc ... My happiest memories for him centered around that time and I thought about it alot when I he passed a few months back .. maybe I'll take it up again someday

The coins, no I don't think so .. and I still had some MTG cards laying around ... actually a fair amount .. I bought a collection off a coworker like a year ago and then I pieced it out and sold it ... made a ****ing killing off my investment ... his loss I offered to sit down and go through it with him and just take a commission of whatever he made ... he just wanted it gone ..

I haven't told him how much I made thought ..

Sucks, I feel like I don't have time for hobbies

Yeah man, when he passed my mom and I found out he still had his collection... We had thought it had been sold.

I generally assume it'll be mine one day but they're fine where they are right now.

When I went to London when I was 10 I was most excited about going to the stamp stores with my GP.

this is a photo of one of the hand made swords as it was being made. The style of the blade is called a yataghan and it is made using pattern welding otherwise known as damascus steel

here is a closer look at the blade, the grain comes from folding layers of different quality steel, then dipping in acid.

This thread is filling my heart with joy. I use to collect South Park cards I'd get at the variety store when I'd get a slushy.

I use to collect coins' date=' and foreign currency. I don't know how much worth it has. Sometimes collector''s who own their own stores, will lie to you about the worth of a coin set. So I called around my country to see the worth at different various stores. So I sold a nice coin set, cause I needed the dough.

I use to collect cards. Uncle still wants to give me his cards he bought which are worth 1000$, and he told me this years ago.

So yeah, I'd like to collect things, but once my life is stable. Probably knives and swords. I want a bushido sword. All so fascinating.[/quote']

Yeah if you collect anything for monetary value it's on your own head to research exactly what you have. This can take time and effort but can be very rewarding in itself.

As I said earlier I have quite an interest in knives and swords, and agree that it is a great thing to start collecting.
