For the Aussies.. Port Power and former Collingwood player John McCarthy has died in Las Vegas, while with the team on an end of season trip to Las Vegas, falling from the balcony of the Flamingo Hotel on the Vegas strip.

Very sad, breaking news. Apparently his family found out via twitter and facebook, while the club were trying to confirm the facts some idiot leaked it on twitter. RIP.

thats harsh. i wonder if he actually fell over on his own free will, drunk or something, or if it was some kind of a hit out oin him and somebody gave him a push?? maybe suicide? i guess its too early for them to release their findings. bodies dont usually just fall from the air like that unless they are coming down from an all nighter on red bull.

in other news, carlos condit was spotted the other day. he's still running!

I'm a bit confused' date=' I thought Vegas hotels didn't have windows that open, let alone balconies? Maybe just saying that until more info, but still, terrible news[/quote']

There was balconies at my hotel. I was just looking at the pics I took from the balcony at the flamingo. There are none in my pics.

They aren't idiots for reporting it.

I am also told that there are balconies on parts of the flamingo. Just not the parts I could see.

I am still very confused by this. The Flamingo Tower sits back from the road about 40 feet and there is a roof that run the entire length of the casino that has a/c intakes on it. Anyone who was to fall from the tower would most likely fall and land on that roof. Also from every picture I have and using both satellite and street view on Google, there are no balconies on the flamingo. The Barbary Coast tower is set back from the road as well.

I will wait for report from a local source to get more info about what really happened...

The club understands McCarthy fell from the balcony of a high-rise hotel' date='[b']believed [/b] to be The Flamingo, in the early hours of Monday morning.

McCarthy and his team-mates, who left for the United States on Saturday, were not staying at The Flamingo.

nice, thanks for the heads up. Brew or G is it true that oyu can access the roofs relatively easily at some of these cheaper places? And yeah no doubt they would have been slaughtered and boys being boys, esp footy boys would've been going hard. 11 months off alcohol then a bender in Vegas they were probably cadbury's as well. Poor bastard.

The 'idiots' reporting it was about how the families had to hear such news on public forums, I guess however you hear it is not gonna be good, at least have some tact.

Story sucks all around. I was standing on my balcony at the Imperial Palace telling Leonie how I was surprised that they had Balconies on the 17th floor of any Hotel in Vegas, as people here stay hammered.

I was looking at the Flamingo when I was having that conversation thinking how it was smart that they did not have the balconies.

I just find this eerie. That was two weeks ago.

I do not know about the roofs, I did not try to go up to one.

I am sorry for the friends and family.

turns out it was a rooftop, but he only fell 9 metres... could've only been three of four stories up. The plot thickens! It's hit the AFL community pretty hard, he was a well liked kid.

It's pretty big over here, at least in the majority of the country.. up there with the premier league in UK or NFL over there, they get hounded in the media so the players are all pretty tight knit. scumbags in aussie will make some controversy over this you can guarantee it.

Shame the Smashes is filmed already, would've been good to get the guys to visit one of the clubs this guy came from for some distraction from this stuff.

Yeah but imagine if he had made the jump, all his mates would have thought he was a legend. Risk vs Reward

100% agree.... but he was by himself... so if he made it he would've caught up with them back at the bar or whatever and said "dude! I made that jump!" then they wouldn't believe him and he'd have to go back and prove it, then the whole final destination thing would've got him anyway...
