UFC 100: Lesnar vs. Mir 2 - PPV 1.6m

I think the UFC is going through a major transition' date=' it's unsure if it wants to run like Pro Boxing or more like an NFL type thing but without seasons. Also the whole FOX thing went over really roughly the first 2 FOX Cards were failures the third and fourth were great but didn't have as many viewers because of first impressions. Injuries are happening so frequently I feel there's some legitimate conspiracies behind that idiots who say " too many events is why fighters are getting injuredd" aren't educated enough to do brief research and realize fighters aree still fighting 2-3 times a year average so the number of cards pertains not to the injuries.

All and all if the UFC can bounces back soon and markets themselves right their Nick Diaz's, Jon Jones, Overeem's, Georges St. Pierres, and really starts building up the rising stars to where they become more beloved like the Weidman's, Barao's, MacDonald's I think they can break 2 million in 2014 and hit in the millions several times, but it looks like their huge time exposure is a big of a step back for now since they haven't delivered when they needed to the most.[/quote']

Good post mate, wrong thread :)

Considering lesnar vs mir2 was ufc 100

That also had hendo vs bisping.....great buildup from tuf

And gsp vs alves....

If ufc wanna make them kinda numbers again. Then they need a stacked card.

Ie

Silva vs gsp

Jds vs overeem

Hendo vs machida

Nick diaz vs Rory Mcdonald.

Wandy vs Sonnen

A card like this would get them numbers.....

Honestly, the problem is that UFC 100 incorporated a lot of stuff. You had WWE vs UFC, USA vs GB, GSP defending his title which always attracts the Canadian buyers. It just had a lot of stuff to make a lot of different types of people buy the PPV. Idk if Silva vs Jones/GSP alone would be enough to bring in that many different types of people.

+1 exactly my thoughts. I think it`s kind of unfair to compare ufc 100, because it was such a crazy event. WWE HW title fight, GSP defending title, and the USA vs GB tuf coaches.. It will be hard to beat 1.6, but i think if there was a GSP vs. Silva fight, it would be very possible depending on co-main event and such.

I agree with the general consensus that UFC 100 wasn't sold on the shoulders of Lesnar/Mir 2 alone. But I would suggest that UFC 94's 920,000 buys was done on the idea of GSP/Penn alone. Now granted, both Penn and Rush were enjoying something of a peak in popularity. GSP hadn't yet gained a reputation for being a "safe" fighter and was finishing quite regularly at that point. However, the UFC has grown in popularity since then on a whole. The media coverage for UFC 100 helped immensely I'm sure, and if you were to take MMA's current lightning rod (Jon Jones) and places him up against a man nearly universally viewed as either the P4P GOAT or at the least high up on that list...well then you've got yourself something special.

I do think Silva fighting Bones would out perform GSP. As with everything in life, there comes a point when it's peaked, and I believe interest in this fight peaked some time ago. People are no longer clamoring for it - GSP's fanbase in dwindling, and on a whole, I think the MMA community still wants to see it, but it's not at the forefront of their minds.

And rest assured, no matter if a Silva Superfight happens with GSP or Jones, they are NOT going to fill the rest of the card with your average undercard bouts. They want to break records, they want to be able to tout their successes, and most of all, they want to make sure that if two of the hottest commodities they have face one another, it's going to be the highlight of a night that no MMA fan could stand to miss. I could easily see them tack on another fight, that could easily headline on any other given PPV, as the co-main event...much like what they did with GSP/Pitbull at 100. They would also probably add on a smaller weight class (Feather or Bantam) title defense for good measure. But I think it could be done...now will it? We'll see how St. Pierre and Jones feel when the time comes and Silva is offered - I think both might find other things to do......but that's just my opinion.
