according to Jon Fitch.

Well let's talk about Jon Fitch's case for a title shot.

He's already fought for the title and lost dramatically. If he wanted another shot, surely he'd want to prove in his fights that he's improved as a fighter and thus deserves to test himself against the champ again. So has he proven he has improved? I don't think so. He's done the same old thing every fight and shown nothing to prove he would stand a better chance in a rematch.

Now lets look at the opponents he has beaten since he lost to George.

Akihiro Gono - coming off a loss, cut after fighting fitch

Paulo Thiago - lost 3 of last 4,

Mike Pierce - won 29/28 after getting dominated in the third round

Ben Saunders - went on to lose to a lightweight and get cut.

Thiago Alves - the only contender caliber fighter he beat since, and won less decisively in this rematch then their first match. He might have earned the right arguably after this fight, but he still hasn't shown any signs of improvement...

Now let's look at his last two fights :D

BJ Penn - Draw with this borderline retirement lightweight

Johnny Hendricks - KTFO in 12 seconds

This guy shouldn't even have the words title shot coming out his mouth right now. Maybe after the Alves fight... but definitely not now.

"There's no system for picking number one contenders. There's no order' date=' there's no lineup, there's no point system.[/quote']

Well there is, a guy can earn a shot after finishing another top contender, irrelevant of the win streak. Also, depending on injuries and fight cancelations, people can get fast tracked.

It's just whoever they feel they're going to make the most money off of. That's who gets the title shot.

Is that why Nick Diaz is getting a title shot before Condit?

"It comes down to showmanship' date='" he continued. "I have to be a better showman to get a title shot. I don't have to be a better fighter. I just have to be a better showman."[/quote']

No, you need to prove you've improved as a fighter to get a rematch with the champ, which Jon Fitch hasn't done.

So what are your thoughts on the ufc title shot structure? Do you think Jon has a point and title shots aren't given to contenders who deserve them because they aren't popular enough? or do you think he never earned the right to rematch the champ?

hush little one :D

What are your thoughts on the title shot system? Do you have a problem with it or are you fine with things being run the way it is?

oh boy.. Fitch suggests a point system.. how am i not surprised!! :D

He needs to stfu and get cut already, that boring *** point fighter!

But more on topic, title shots should go to the guy that puts on the most impressive performances. That's pretty much what they do now (unless the UFC is in a jam), so I don't think they really need to change anything.

The only thing i would have them change is something to do with injuries, and what can really be done about that??

I pay to by entertained. I would like to see fights between the guys with momentum so I'm pretty good with the shot system. The only time I get upset is when fighter x that I like get's "passed over" which is my problem, not the organization.

There are other promotions I watch that have more of a merit based system that don't cost me 54.99 to watch.

Does that make it "fair" to the Jon Fitches of the world, no. Does it de-legitimize the sport, probably. It does, however, keep me opening my wallet every single time.
