Epilogue1406051983
absolute BS in my opinion... Gustafsson is the only contender right now with the wins to actually justify a shot and no call? I remember when this whole mess was going down and all I could think was "where's Gusta?" thinking there must have been SOME reason to why he wasn't in and now... christ... wtf is going on over there? All I know is he has good standup. So really he has well-rounded skills. As much as I would have loved to see this, I think it's best it didn't happen because Gus still needs to beat a top 10 opponent (unless T. Silva was top 10 at the time). Once he gets past Shogun, there's no denying him of a title shot, imo. That makes me much more excited if this fight would happen. Not to mention they are almost identical in height. They're trying to slowly build Gus up, Shogun is his biggest competition yet. After that give him a #1 contender fight, as Machida/ Hendo winner will be the next in line. nyran125
why the hell didnt he get a call? hes the most deserving 205 pounder right now ,on a winstreak anyway. this is the problem i have with UFC right now. They phone Lyoto because hes more well known and dont phone Gustafsson because hes less well known!?!?!!?!!?? yet Gustaffson is on the LARGEST streak at 205 right now and SHOULD be fighting Jones next. Judging by his streak. This is becoming less of a sport and more of an entertainment product and its really sad and im starting to switch off because the fights arent making any sense. theres 3 guys on Streaks at 205 right now. Gustaffson (the highest), Bonnar , Lyoto and Te Huna, the other fighters obviously are Rua, rashad, Vera and bader....they are the only ones that should be getting a title fight. UFC is becoming a popularity contest. ill take Roy Nelsons opinion over Dana White's opinion of what the sport should be.
zaksame
YA i already mentioned that i would like to see him get a shot. This is just one more proof at the lack of effort Dana put into making that card work.I am still in belief that Hendo maybe mentioned something to Dana and that is why he went for Sonnen.Problem is Sonnen aside it does not make any excuse as to why Dana did not contact others during and more importantly long before the problem arose. Magerget
I'm torn on this subject... Gus is, after Hendo, the most deserving imo, but then again I think he should meet a top-5 fighter before facing maybe the best fighter ever in JBJ. I can understand the ppv-argument, but if that is the road UFC will choose, your name more important than your game, the UFC will become a freakshow of wellpayed spoiled little children where the fighters, not the promotion, gets to make the descicions on who and who not to fight... A bit like, to some extent, boxing has become. My opinion is that the less known but more deserving fighter always should get the shot before a better known fighter. That being said, I kinda get why JBJ got the Vitor fight when Machida backed out. JBJ needs to fight someone, just to not get stale and Shogun and Gus are both booked on an awsome card I guess Dana don't want to break and Hendo is injured. But Chael? Noone can say he is deserving of a fight for the belt at LHW and he would get so destroyed by JBJ he would have to retire afterwards, but I guess that was just an act of pure desperation... I wonder if Rashad was asked btw, he could've made weight in 30-some days couldn't he? But maybe too close to his loss vs Jones... Or is he booked? On a side-note, Marcus Kowal is tha man when it comes to interviewing mma-fighters, great insight, great questions and just a nice guy...
JimmyKruger
The problem with imitating the WWE style of putting cards together is that in WWE you have about 5 or 6 stars on rotation in terms of main events. It's silly. You'll only ever have a handful of fan favourites in the UFC at a time, and to constantly make the same fights over and over (WWE style) would be to the detriment of every aspect on this sport. The reason it works in WWE is because it is fake, so the other actors on the bill don't care that they aren't getting a title shot, and the fans don't argue that the matchups don't make sense, because they are just happy provided their favourite stars make an appearance. It goes without saying that fights need to make some financial sense in addition to making sense regarding ranks... But if UFC promotors couldnt sell Gus vs Bones, they are in the wrong business All they need do is put a couple of free Gus fights on UFC.com (just like they do with other fighters) and remind people of his streak. Plus the only people who don't know who Gus is, are the very WWE fans to which someone else referred earlier.
