Who has the best chance of beating JBJ right now?

I wanna see a bit more of Glover, if his stand-up and Jitz is as good as Chuck and everyone else says, he could really pose some problems.

Other than him, Vinny M may just have the best chance of beating him right now because his Jitz is on a whole other level to everyone else on that list. There would of course be the risk in the stand-up though, as he probably would rank last out of all the guys on the list in the stand-up department

Jones can't brawl and Hendo is the best at brawling. Not sure if he can avoid getting taken down but I'm going with Hendo.

Hendo is cool and all but he gasses fast, now you have to get close enough to land your h-bomb, jones will straight arm and avoid damage or clinch and trip, not to mention he constant attack of push kicks and in general lengthy distance strikes

Hendo is too slow in my opinion

I agree, but he stands the best chance out of anyone imo.

Shogun and Vitor don't have the wrestling, Rashad and Rampage don't have the aggression, Machida maybe... but tbh i don't think he has the knockout power necessary, most of the other up and coming guys aren't well rounded enough imo. Alex? He had trouble with Te Huna's wrestling, relies on his reach to win, Jones > Alex, who else?

The true secret IMO is exploiting their gameplans. Jackson's get so gameplan specific that they aren't as well rounded and prepared for everything as they could be. Serra was a jiu jitsu guy, he trained exclusively boxing leading up to St. Pierre 1 in the blind hope that GSP would stand with him. It worked.

I think the same thing happened yesterday. Vitor's wrestling was non existent. He had better wrestling in the Rumble fight then against Jones. His grappling was all jiu jitsu oriented from his back. Jones got caught off guard from it. Someone could do this, maybe someone who Jones thinks is going to strike with him, but they end up taking him down...

I think Gustafssons boxing and movement could pose a real problem for Jones. And if his tdd and wrestling has gotten better, he has a real opportunity to take the belt imo.

Gus hits hard, and often. Jones hasn't been challanged by that yet. Maybe by Machida, who has really crisp hands and counters, but Alex punches harder.

If Gus KO's or TKO's Shogun, he should be the obvious choice for the #1 contenderstatus... Not like that's a cakewalk, but I think it's absolutley possible.

For thosewho say Hendo, my issue with him is that less skilled wrestlers have taken him down and the smaller Anderson Silva choked him out. I dont think he has the bottom game of Vitor to stop those elbows either.

Only shot he has got is if he is prepared to blitz Jones and catch him, but even Vitor failed to unload on him so it makes u doubt Hendo would

Damn' date=' I forgot to put Matt Hamill in the poll :(

I would like to see Hamill vs Vinny Magalhaes next, what you thinks?[/quote']

Jones gets to fight the winner for the title

Lol.

With Jones potentially out for a few months i think that the unconfirmed Machida vs. Hendo fight will be the title eliminator with Shogun vs Gus being up there too.

Will be interesting to see who Glover faces next should he get past Maldonado, Rampage still seems keen to face him although im still desperate for Rampage vs Shogun

Rashad is waiting for a match-up right now too, i heard he wants Machida but i cant see that happening unless Hendo goes straight into a fight with JBJ

Yo enigma' date='

Gus has been wrestling with Phil Davis for a year now, so i think with him being so young his wrestling game will have caught up. He has always had solid striking and BJJ, so the Shogun fight will show where he is at... But i think he is gonna shock a few people![/quote']

Bro to be fair Davis isn't the best wrestler in the LHW div, was taken down by Evans and Jones has a complete different style of wrestling.

True, but apart from Jones and Evans, there isnt anyone in the division as good as Davis is there? ;)

Gus having trained with a good wrestler like Davis for a year now should mean that he has far better TD defence and offensive wrestling. This coupled with his far better striking and BJJ than Davis could mean a very dangerous opponent for Jones in Gus....

It is of course theoretical at the moment, but the Shogun fight will give us a very good indication of where Gus is at right now. His height/length would pose an interesting match-up with Jones if he can either defend the TD or be offensive vitor style off his back

everyone seems to have completely forgotten about Phil Davis? The guy was on a tear before the Rashad loss (which I put down to inexperience). In a year or two this guy gonna be a monster. and didnt he finish Gus?

He choked Gus out after wearing him down with his smothering wrestling style, as Gus had pretty basic wrestling skills back then. He has since been training WITH Davis to improve his wrestling.

The problem with Phil Davis is that his stand-up is woeful in comparison to the divisions best. Evans also exposed his wrestling as not being as great as we first thought anyway, although Evans tbh is one of the best MMA wrestlers in the game today!

Davis also looked bad in the minute we got to see him against Prado in August, Prado looked like he was gonna take his head off before the eye-poke!

Who knows, a convincing win for Davis over Prado in October could propell him back into the 205 conversation again, but its gonna take a few wins for him to really recover coz Evans really did dominate him

how is alex leading this poll ???

his striking is good but still not great!

his wrestling is crappy as **** !! he would get dominated' date=' cut up, and submitted or tko'd by jones

total domination by jones..

please explain how he has a chance ???????????[/quote']

This^^

Glover is a stud from what I've heard the pros say, but he still needs to prove himself.

Does anybody else think that Glover is a 205 JDS?

Hell no.

Glover's has an aggressive in your face standup that consist of a very repetitive heavy left hook and straight/overhand right combination an an occassional kick but he's really most dangerous on the ground and he will look to take it there if he can unlike JDS.

They are really not that much alike.

Yeah' date=' but he's too small for Jones and he'd get TKO'd first. Werdum would be a good fight.[/quote']

Vinny is so good at submissions' date=' he could very well take Jones by simply pulling-guard right from the start (with little or no stand-up even involved).[/quote']

Agreed but that could happen too. Only one way to find out.
