I thought this could be a good thing to do

A lot of threads here have mentioned that they want to help out so I thought this would be a good tangible way to help!!! Kids needs it more than we do so I say we group together and raise some money

I'll keep a running tab on this page for how much our UFC group has raised

Never donated to Feed The Children charity before. Does anyone know off the top of their head if it is a legitimate organization? Don't mean to be a downer' date=' but I will not enable scam artists.[/quote']

Feed The Children communicates the following accomplishments:

?In FY 2003, Feed The Children shipped 54 million pounds of food and 15 million pounds of other essentials to authorized distribution agencies in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Feed The Children also enhances learning opportunities for underprivileged children by distributing books and other educational materials where appropriate. Feed The Children services are targeted to areas of poverty in both rural and urban environments.

? Feed The Children each year provides emergency assistance to victims of natural and man-made disasters throughout the U.S. Feed The Children is often the first relief agency to reach the scene due to its dedicated fleet of 55 semi-tractor trailer trucks operated by its wholly ?owned subsidiary FTC Transportation, Inc.

?Last year Feed The Children sent over 14 million pounds of food and other necessities to needy children and families in 62 foreign countries. Since 1980, FTC has shipped supplies to individuals in a total of 109 countries. Particular care is given to children who are disabled, homeless or living in the streets

?Last year, the Medical Team treated 45,966 patients in medical, eye and dental clinics, and dispensed and filled 58,650 prescriptions for medicine and eyeglasses.

?Since December 2002, Feed the Children has distributed 49 semi-tractor truckloads of food and supplies, which directory helped more than 17.00 military families.

?The Frances Jones Abandoned Baby Center, a state-of-the-art facility for abandoned babies and orphans in Africa, was expanded.

?As an implementing partner for UN World Food Programme in Maslakh IDP camp, Heart, Afghanistan, Feed the Children International was contracted to build and manage 25 bakeries in the camp, supplying bread for some 300,000 people per day.

There's nothing wrong with questioning the legitimacy of any organization that takes donations. It's actually the smart thing to do. The best thing for you to do is inquire with the Better Business Bureau. They'll tell you if they're legit or not. I happen to know they are, but you might feel better seeing for yourself.

Great idea. There is another organization that links local food banks and distributes funds- Feeding America

http://feedingamerica.org/

The bank in Las Vegas is Three Square and does a really great job stretching every dollar: $1 = 3 meals. Completely legit, helps various levels of poverty and hungry. UFC does a huge food drive with them every year, and i work with them for local schools as they prepare over-weekend meals for impoverished/homeless kids.

Few dollars to an organization can make a huge difference.

you deleted my donate me money so i can get beer thread! curse you guys!!!

bunch of ingrateful bastards. sure all those companies that say for 15 cents a day you can save a childs life, but they never get to see hardly any of that money and most of it goes to the wrong people anyways

but u get a guy asking for donations for an honest cause...where you know exactly where the money is going, straight into his stomache, no strings attached. you give him the shaft? you guys should be ashamed of yourself

i bet a small portion of that $70 you guys donated will only end up in the stomaches of some hungry kid. after all theres alot of money required by charity organizations asking for free handouts. it really shouldnt cost any money at all to beg, unless a cop drives by and sees you doing it.

it is a good cause, but theres always a hidden agenda behind these kind of places from what ive always thought. especially those sponsor a child stuff. theres always been scams involved. especially during hurricane katrina

I work directly with Three Square and see exactly where the money goes. Less than 10% goes into admin/office/advertising/overhead and the majority of people who work there donate beyond their paid hours. I understand that it is hard to see anyone having actual charitable feelings, but there are many people who do.

Sorry but I think you could have really tried to find a solid charity, and not just went with a christian based scandal infested one.

Why not a secular charity so all of us could participate? Why not one with less legal problems and corruption?

Doctors Without Borders is ten times better and hasn't been rocked by corruption and scandal.

Globus Relief is easily top 5 p4p

There are other options.

sounds like a scandal to me.

if they are truly a christian based organization i hope they burn in hell.

you guys would be better off donating to me. i would put 100% of it to good use, exactly as i advertised . guaranteed. will even send back the receipts and empty bottles after if you insist just so you know all the money went exactly where i said it would.

I think I may have inadvertently derailed the thread. I apologize for that as it was not my intent. Doing my own checking FTC seems to be mostly solid, but a few stories bothered me and I cannot do an in depth check currently.

Since it was mentioned I have donated to Doctors without borders and feeding America before so I will just give ten to each today.

Let's try not to derail this thread too much guys.

I would definitely recommend donating to it because there's not many causes more universally agreed upon than feeding starving children. The links were nothing agregous...the first just said that the old leader did a wire tap so they replaced him with a brand new and trusted leader for the organization

But yeah, I looked into it and they have done a lot of great stuff in the last 30 or so years

I think it's a cool thing that many people here contributed and I'm sure it made a difference in some way for kids that could use it way way way more than any of us need it
