50 reasons why Christ came to die...

1. To absorb the wrath of God.

"Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us -- for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree."" ~ Galatians 3:13

"God put Christ forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he passed over former sins." ~ Romans 3:25

"In this is love, not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins." 1 John 4:10

If God were not just, there would be no demand for his Son to have suffered.

Merry Christmas. :)

Reason 2.

To please His heavenly Father.

"Yet is was the will of the LORD to crush him; and he has put him to grief."

Isaiah 53:10

"Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God."

Ephesians 5:2

Surely he has borne our grief and carried our sorrows.

He was wounded for our transgressions.

#23. To reclaim the power over repentance that the money changers usurped from the jewish people. By becoming God's "last sacrifice" the jewish people would no longer need to buy offerings at the tabernacle/temple/church in order to atone for their sins. They would only need to speak to God themselves calling upon the Lord Jesus' name.

This was especially harmful to the (adjusted for inflation) billion dollar industry of land and animal owners selling their products to the poor at a profit in order for those poor to have anything to offer God to pay for their sins.

Imagine in order to be forgiven for your sins, you had to give God a McRib. McDonald's gets rich because they own all the McRibs.

Then along comes a guy who says God doesn't need any McRibs, just humble yourself before him and ask for forgiveness and you shall have it.

So they plotted against him and had him killed.

#43. To provide a way and a ticket into heaven for heathens and gentiles. Before Christ you had to be a Jew, or convert to Judaism (or convert into a worshiper of the Gof of Abraham YHWH however you want to describe it) otherwise you sat outside the gates of heaven forever or you may even go to hell. Jesus paved the road for nonjews to get in. Believe in Jesus as accept him as your lord and savior and bingo!

Of course, the racists hated the idea of dirty gentiles getting into Heaven and drinking from the same fountain as them.

Of course, that this guy named Jesus existed doesn't solve the first problem - showing reasonable evidence to believe there is a God at all.

which would explain why all the Inns were full and the livestock still in the fields...

And we were to celebrate his death' date=' not his birth.[/quote']

I'm not sure really. I heard it was Spring too, when the shepherds had their flocks in from grazing. I don't know.

What I do know is that the Roman Catholic church usurped the pagan holiday ritual of December 25th centuries ago to try and trump it out. Big disservice to the church imo.

Saturnalia... That's right folks. You're celebrating a pagan ritual under a different name. Punishment? Eternity in Hell.

he couldnt stand the thought of being born from a virgin prostitute

how exactly does that happen anyways? virgin prostitute? what the hell? do they just put it half way in? even just the tip? i dont get it. did she take it in the ear?

No, people were just stupid enough to believe her story. 2012 years ago, she managed to convince everyone she was birthing the son of God. Nowadays, she would be a feature episode on the Maury Povich show.

I'm gonna go ahead and say there is no reason because I don't even think there was a Jesus I don't think he ever existed.

Seriously I've never seen real evidence he even existed.

I felt the same for a hot minute but then I read some rather convincing letters from Pontius Pilate, the Roman Governor of Judea at the time, and when he says that he had to torture and crucify a man named Jesus at the behest of the Jewish Pharisees for crimes against the church, I tend to believe him. He (Pontius) stuck around long enough to also write about how they hunted down Jesus' followers (early "christians") and killed them or imprisoned them for heresy.

Jesus may or may not have been a deity, or the son of one - but is a Jewish Carpenter turned cult leader really that much of a stretch?

Reason # 3.

To learn Obedience and be Perfected.

"Although he was a son, he learned obedience

through what he suffered."

Hebrews 5:8

"For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist,

in bringing many sons to glory,

should make the founder of their salvation

perfect through suffering."

Hebrews 2:10

The very book in the Bible that says Christ ?learned obedi-

ence? through suffering, and that he was ?made perfect?

through suffering, also says that he was ?without sin.? ?In every

respect [Christ] has been tempted as we are, yet without sin?

(Hebrews 4:15).

This is the consistent teaching of the Bible. Christ was sinless.

Although he was the divine Son of God, he was really human, with

all our temptations and appetites and physical weaknesses. There

was hunger (Matthew 21:18) and anger and grief (Mark 3:5) and

pain (Matthew 17:12). But his heart was perfectly in love with

God, and he acted consistently with that love: ?He committed no

sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth? (1 Peter 2:22).

Therefore, when the Bible says that Jesus ?learned obedience

through what he suffered,? it doesn?t mean that he learned to stop

disobeying. It means that with each new trial he learned in prac-

tice?and in pain?what it means to obey. When it says that he

was ?made perfect through suffering,? it doesn?t mean that he

was gradually getting rid of defects. It means that he was gradu-

ally fulfilling the perfect righteousness that he had to have in

order to save us.

That?s what he said at his baptism. He didn?t need to be bap-

tized because he was a sinner. Rather, he explained to John the

Baptist, ?Thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness?

(Matthew 3:15).

The point is this: If the Son of God had gone from incarnation

to the cross without a life of temptation and pain to test his righ-

teousness and his love, he would not be a suitable Savior for fallen

man. His suffering not only absorbed the wrath of God. It also ful-

filled his true humanity and made him able to call us brothers and

sisters (Hebrews 2:17).

It's a good thing somebody here knows and validates history.

Thanks for coinciding facts TMNH.

Infancy Gospel of Thomas

3. And the son of Annas the scribe was standing there with Joseph; and he took a willow branch, and let out the waters which Jesus bad collected. And Jesus, seeing what was done, was angry, and said to him: O wicked, impious, and foolish! what harm did the pools and the waters do to thee? Behold, even now thou shalt be dried up like a tree, and thou shalt not bring forth either leaves, or root,2 or fruit. And straightway that boy was quite dried up. And Jesus departed, and went to Joseph's house. But the parents of the boy that had been dried up took him up, bewailing his youth, and brought him to Joseph, and reproached him because, said they, thou hast such a child doing such things.

4. After that He was again passing through the village; and a boy ran up against Him, and struck His shoulder. And Jesus was angry, and said to him: Thou shalt not go back the way thou camest. And immediately he fell down dead. And some who saw what had taken place, said: Whence was this child begotten, that every word of his is certainly accomplished? And the parents of the dead boy went away to Joseph, and blamed him, saying: Since thou hast such a child, it is impossible for thee to live with us in the village; or else teach him to bless, and not to curse:4 for he is killing our children.

5. And Joseph called the child apart, and admonished Him, saying: Why doest thou such things, and these people suffer, and hate us, and persecute us? And Jesus said: I know that these words of thine are not thine own;5 nevertheless for thy sake I will be silent; but they shall bear their punishment. And straightway those that accused Him were struck blind. And those who saw it were much afraid and in great perplexity, and said about Him: Every word which he spoke, whether good or bad, was an act, and became a wonder. And when they saw that Jesus had done such a thing, Joseph rose and took hold of His ear, and pulled it hard. And the child was very angry, and said to him: It is enough for thee to seek, and not to find; and most certainly thou hast not done wisely. Knowest thou not that I am thine? Do not trouble me.
