Dan Hardy: TUF is becoming Jersey Shore

Former UFC welterweight contender Dan Hardy (25-10) thinks watching recent editions of The Ultimate Fighter reality TV show is like watching Jersey Shore. Hardy, who was signed by the UFC after compiling an 18-6 record in regional promotions, said the show had changed for the worse. ?The Outlaw? said a recent episode of TUF 16 had even made him think about losing his trademark mohawk.

?I love The Ultimate Fighter. Forrest Griffin (vs) Stephan Bonnar made the sport for me. We owe them a lot. But recently, I think it?s got away, and I think this show you guys have got over here has kind of taken it back to where it should be. We kind of got toward ?The Jersey Shore? side of reality TV with the Julian Lanes and the Junie Brownings, and that?s not what we?re about. I?m a professional athlete, and I don?t want to see guys getting drunk and screaming and crying and throwing beds in the pool ? It just seems like every person on ?The Ultimate Fighter? that acts like an *** has got a Mohawk.?

ironic coming from Hardy but I sort of agree with him but it's not like it hasn't always been like that

Ultimate Fighter 1 was full of drama queens.

TBH i like a good mix of training' date=' fights, and drama in the house to build up the fights. That said this season was embarrassing.[/quote']

Agreed. You can advance your career just as much with your personality as your fighting ability.

I was at the Q&A and I remember it was Ebersole who was in the crowd who asked because he got the text from his trainer asking if Dan was going to shave the mohawk. As soon as Dan said he was considering and as soon as he asked "have you guys been watching the American season of TUF?" I knew straight away it was because of Julian :D

By the way, Dan seems like a great guy, in the past he's come across as a bit of a punk and whatnot but he was so genuine and when I met him and chatted to him at the after party thing he was so friendly and has some great stories to tell, definitely made me a bigger fan from it!

Well, Dan is right in a way, TUF is more about the drama then the fights, people like Junie Browning and Julian Lane could be bad for the sport if people were under the impression that they were typical MMA fighters and every fighter behaved the same way. That isn't something that I would want to be associated with personally, but those types of people exist in every sport at every level, nothing you can do about it

junie browning was actually a sick fighter, and i liked his psychotic episodes

julian lane on the other hand is a garbage fighter and his memorable break down was painful and embarrassing to watch

hardy is right anyway, i cringe when i see some of these guys. is there a ufc boutique where you can get everything done at once? someone cuts you a mohawk and dyes it green for you while your getting a tribal back/shoulder piece

Tuff is hit and miss the best ones were

Tuf 1 couture vs Liddell

Tuf 5 penn vs pulver

Tuf 8 nog vs Mir (thanks to junie browning)

Tuf 10 Jackson vs Evans (kimbo slice)

Tuf 12 st pierre vs Koscheck

Tuf 14 Bisping vs miller

I had high hopes for tuf13 lesnar vs dos santos but was majorly let down.

No, just no. Even though that was the season that first got me in to TUF, I still know full well that season was garbage. The other seasons you mentioned are all great though, this last one just really sucked- below average talent and 2 coaches that didn't have enough star power to carry the season. I suspect we'll see a rebound with Jones vs. Sonnen.

Why is that ironic coming from Dan Hardy? Do you not understand the word?

I can only assume you're suggesting he too is idiotic which is ridiculous. He is CLEARLY one of the most intelligent and eloquent fighters in MMA.

Best season of TUF by far. Bisping, Miller and Diego Brandao made it.
