JDS vs Velasquez the next great rivalry

kinda a struggle watching this fight since I'm big fans of both... at the end I was glad JDS gave it his all to keep the fight going... I think I would have been disappointed if he just gave up and the fight called a TKO the same way Boetsch was...

what makes this such a great rivalry is that I see both these guys trying to constantly one up each other... cain got his revenge, but I see JDS going back to the gym to train even harder, and Cain doing the same... these guys are going to bring out the best in each other...

makes me feel sorry for guys like Overeem and Werdum who are going to get caught in their storm...

JDS can definitely perform better. He seemed too concerned about the takedown and was hesitant on the feet. Even against Frank Mir he seemed hesitant because of the early takedown attempt. He needs to maintain confidence in his tdd and his ability to get back up. Even once rocked and gassed he was still getting back to his feet better then everyone else does against Cain.

Next, it's clear that Cain is the one who wants to close in. Junior needs to maintain constant lateral movement and use straighter punches. Jabs and straight rights. I saw quite a few long range hooks and uppercuts which are much harder to use effectively to keep that range. Junior also needs to keep his hands up. I thought Cigano had gassed hard by the end of rd 1 and couldn't hold his arms up, that's the only thing that makes sense why he'd keep his arms so low!

Last but not least... Cardio. Seriously. Junior gassed quicker then shogun on his worst day. Junior needs to at least be prepared to get cain off him for 3 solid rounds, then he can rely on his toughness to carry him... instead of 4 1/2 rounds.

If he makes these changes he probably won't get the KO as his striking style doesn't use straight punches as much and he may not be able to apply his power with them, also if he maintains his lateral movement he won't be able to set his feet to accentuate his power but at least he will be better equipped to deal with Cain's relentless attack.

If Junior can make it competitive then a 5 round back and forth war to complete the trilogy would be perfect.

His cardio doesn't seem that bad, Cain is just an absolute animal. It was just constant barrages of making JDS shrug off clinches and takedowns, Cain wasn't even planning on actually getting it to the ground.

All that talk Joe has about Diaz dragging his opponents down into the deep waters, Cain actually does it. And he does it much better
