Cerrone: Jones found a way out of UFC 151

UFC lightweight contender Donald Cerrone (19-4) isn't about to lie just because someone's on his team. "The Cowboy" thinks Jackson's MMA teammate Jon Jones (17-1) should have fought Chael Sonnen (27-12) on eight days notice at UFC 151. It all went down four months ago, but it's a story that won't go away until at least April 27, when Jones defends his light heavyweight strap against fellow TUF coach, Sonnen. Cerrone weighed in on the issue before the UFC 155 weigh-ins in Las Vegas.

"Yes, I'd have fought. They could call me tomorrow and ask me to fight. I think you need to fight, that's our job. I don't think you should curl up and find a way out ... He's my teammate and we have this discussion all the time. I said, 'you should have done it,' and he goes, 'well, you don't make a million to fight,' and I said, 'well, you're right, but I f***ing fight every time with all my heart."

Getting paid a million to fight should give you even more incentive to take the short notice fight not less.

I asked Cowboy when it happened what he thought on twitter and he basically said the same thing and I believe him.

Cerrone is the man, more fighters in this sport should follow his example. To be fair to Jones, when a title is on the line a short notice fight is a bad idea, he was the one putting it all on the line and Sonnen had nothing to lose

Jones should've took the fight. Mainly because of all the negative publicity that came from it. Made him look like a straight coward. Many fans lost a lot of respect for him, I know because I'm one of them. Though you might say that it was smart for Jones to turn it down because Sonnen had nothing to lose and Jones had everything to lose. Or that he wasn't the fighter he had been training for. But isn't that the idea? Your supposed to fight the next gut who they put in front of you. period. It Should never matter who your fighting because your the champ, everyone wants to take that from you. You need to be ready for anything cause that's the soul purpose of being the champ, to defend your title.

A Champion FIGHTS simple as that, Jones chose not to fight and was made to look bad, Then Anderson stepped in to face a much bigger guy to save a card and made Jones look even worse

I agree with you except for the Anderson fought a much bigger guy lmao REALLY?

Making a million bucks a fight is not an incentive to fight often, but much less.

1. You risk the paycheck by frequently fighting.

2. Athletes fight for money, unless you're some trash thug like Nick/Nate.

3. It takes Cerone a lot more fights to make the type of money Jones does, obviously he would want to fight as often as possible.

I ****ing hates Jones, but he did the right thing as an athlete.
