TigerChamp
wow are you living under a rock???? if nobody watched hockey they wouldnt have cleared over 230 billion dollars last season in revenue now would they? great observation there chief. no need to be a hater cause you dont like the game. TigerChamp
but if you want to get technical, the amount of revenue the UFC makes and the amount of viewers every year comes nowhere close to what the NHL brings in. if anything the ufc audience is declining if you look at the numbers and compare them to what they used to be. im sure if people only wanted to see the fights....well yeah they would tune into UFC, or watch boxing just for the pac man and mayweather fights or whatever right? No, hockey is a team sport, like the UFC. Boxers are individuals. Hockey and the UFC have a pretty regular shcedule that they both keep Hockey had a lockout and the UFC had to cancel an event. TigerChamp
well if the fighters had a union with the ufc, there would be a lockout every year because they are so underpaid and if they had a union there is no way that would ever slide. hey if you dont like the sport get out of my thread with your debbie downer ****. go be negative somewhere else
TigerChamp
yeah well if they had unions none of these bottom end fighters would be competing just to pay off their rent and pay their training camps. but then there would be labor disputes if things get ugly. happens in every sport. its all about the almighty dollar no matter how much ridiculous amounts of money you haul in Vancouver Canucks 2013 Stanley Cup Champions. No. I said that people may as well watch Boxing, because the fights are the only interesting thing about Hockey. Therefore, if he wanted to make a point about Hockey being great because it makes so much money, he should've compared it to Boxing. Also, not only is UFC not a sport(it's an MMA promotion), MMA also can't be classed a team sport.
TigerChamp
uhh people watch hockey just because of the fights??? thats the dumbest thing ive ever heard. seriously stop being such a hater. people from all across the world followed the world juniors this year, and guess what? fighting isnt even allowed in it. and most of those guys arent even in the big leagues yet. saying people only watch a sport just to see fights just because you dont like like the sport or cant understand it is such an ignoramus thing to say. ......Uhhhh i dont like UFC, so everybody only watches MMA just to see the octagon girls. See how stupid that sounds? im sure there would be alot of people who would disagree with that statement. Besides, we all know i prefer bellator! TigerChamp
maybe because hockey doesnt entertain you and you only watch it for the fights, yeah. to you. there are 7 trillion other people in this world, most of which who have a television or access to a nearby rink. they also have their own opinion. you are one person. a mere ant. you cant speak for everybody. just your own opinion its okay though. i dont like curling. i only watch it to listen to a bunch of women screaming "harder harder deeper deeper!" but secretly hoping for a fight to break out so they can throw rocks at each other or beat each other around with brooms. just because thats the only way i can appreciate that sport doesnt mean that everybody else only watches it for that. TigerChamp
sure fighting is part of the game but thats not why people watch it. When youre losing 7-0 in a meaningless game, i would figure most people wouldnt care to see a fight after every whistle anyways. sure the meatheads might cheer but thats not what hockey is about and thats not why we watch it. TigerChamp
actually i wouldnt say that, but the market for hockey is rather lackluster in the states other than the northeast and midwest. football is their religion. our religion is hockey. even baseball and basketball teams never cut it up here. we have like what? one basketball and one baseball team? well we did have the vancouver grizzlies, but after 6 seasons of terrible 4-78 records or whatever...u couldnt even pay the people to go to their games. i actually was in GM Place back in the day where i was lucky enough to get to see them win one of the 6 or 7 games they won all year lol. and i got autographs from shareef abdul rahim whatever his name is and some other basketball player on the team with the nickname big country. man that was so long ago, i wasnt even a basketball fan but the tickets were free. Bravo13
Glad NHL is back. There has been some great hockey so far this season outside the NHL. Been a Calgary fan since they got a team. As far as the US being a soft market for hockey, this could change over the next few year. Let's face it, Americans love to beat Canadians at hockey and this year's IIHF has increased interest in hockey even in Florida. (according to the guys reporting from there on SportsNet). For the NHL to be a true success in the US, they just need to find a few superstars they can call their own. Like a Wayne Gretzky, etc. There are superstars in other sports, and that's all the NHL needs.
TigerChamp
yeah hockey in the states has came a long way. 10 years ago they didnt even have any programs but still the market isnt prime. if you take those struggling southern teams and move them to canada, they wouldnt need to rely on revenue sharing from the cities with good markets just to get by. they would even make huge profit

TigerChamp
its also what made phoenix, tampa, florida, nashville, and several other teams still be able to have a hockey team in their own city. however with the new revenue sharing system in the CBA its going to make it much more ideal to just relocate those teams and make the maximum revenue. expect to see at least one or two relocations within the next year or two. which is good, the only thing that kept phoenix in phoenix was revenue sharing, and not to mention the owner jim balsille is also the founder of blackberry (which is also struggling in the market these days) its only a matter of time and its off to quebec or ontario for the yotes. which doesnt make sense, they moved from winnipeg to phoenix in the first place. they should have just moved them a year or two ago back to winnipeg where they originally came from, and let atlanta move to quebec city or hamilton. the fans were happy just to get any team back that they could, so they sold 3 years worth of season tickets right off the bat right now winnipeg is playing in the eastern division, where nashville and detroit are playing in the west and they are far more eastern located than winnipeg could ever be. it would have made sense if they moved phoenix back to winnipeg to play in the western conference, moved atlanta to quebec or ontario to play in the east, and then the divisions would still be split and it would make more sense

I have been missing the NHL, just a little. But I have found some new teams to follow. The one thing I do miss, and this is off topic a bit, is the local senior team. I used to go to the games every Friday night at the local rink, and some road games. Then I moved and there isn't the same type of teams around here.
