najma
Why the need to vacate the FW title before fighting Pettis at LW? Aldo should fight Pettis being the FW champion and if he wins he would hold 2 UFC titles at the same time, which is an amazing feat. Only THEN he should vacate the FW title to be able to keep fighting at LW. Why take his chance of being champion at 2 weight classes simultanously? That makes no sense. Spartacus__
Unless he fights every two months (which they should do neways) the divisions would get backed up. That's not OP's point. He's saying if Aldo wins, then he'd drop the belt. If he loses, he'd keep it. But the UFC does not want a champion coming of a loss, that's why. Just so it makes it a champ vs champ fight and gives Aldo the chance to be a 2x champ simultanously. He can ditch the FW belt the next day regardless of the outcome. Champ vs Champ is literally champion vs champion. If the 145 lb champ fights the 155 lb champ... well thats a Champ vs Champ fight. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out. JChristian522
So the way I've understood it from the beginning of this thread is that why not let Aldo keep his belt for the one fight against Pettis. If he wins, he'll drop the FW belt and defend the LW belt. If he loses, he has the option to go back to FW still with belt or drop the FW belt and work his way back to the LW belt. Right? I think either way he should stay at LW. There are some awesome match ups for him there. I don't want to see him fight Mendes again. Boring and a waste of a main event.
