Faber vs Caceres

I'm somewhat bemused at this matchmaking attempt, is this a barometer

to see if Alex can hang w/ the Cal-Kid ? Is it an early Christmas gift for a loyal

ambassador ? Could it be Dana knows something we don't ? It is without

a doubt one of the most unusual match-ups I've seen and I was hoping

someone could put forth a reasonable theory ?

There really wasn't another option, I'm assuming Faber wants to continue to fight and receive a paycheck.

1 Renan Barao- Beat Faber twice, kinda.

2 Urijah Faber

3 Raphael Assuncao- Injured and has been finished by Faber.

4 Michael McDonald- Finished by Faber

5 Eddie Wineland- Lost to Faber.

6 Takeya Mizugaki- Finished by Faber

7 Iuri Alcantara- Lost to Faber.

8 Johnny Eduardo- I'd actually like to see this guy fight Faber after KOing Wineland.

9 Bryan Caraway- Just fought.

10 Francisco Rivera- Recently lost to Mizugaki, who Faber has a win over.

11 Dominick Cruz- Doesn't fight anymore.

12 Alex Caceres- And here we have Alex.

so you're basically saying Alex was in the right place at the right time > good scenario for an upset,

... I'm concerned with the difference in physical strength, particularly upper body strength, Urijah

could probably bench 100lbs more the AC and its difficult to think of an equalizer for Caceres ...

Faber might have the edge in speed also and Alex is not a big puncher so I don't see UF going to

sleep ... could be a rough night for the southpaw -

Faber wants to fight and Alex is looking to move up the rankings. This is a huge opportunity for Alex, he has a lot more to lose than Faber going into this fight.

This, and Alex Caceres said he'd be honored to fight Faber when asked by a fan on twitter and Faber responded with a friendly "lets bang bro" and Sean Shelby decided **** it, why not?

That's right, I forgot about that. Faber choked him out.

I wonder if Mendes loses if Faber would go back to 145.....

Yeah Faber is kind of in no-mans land right now. Would he fight Dillashaw?

He already said he wouldn't. So he's pretty much screwed. He needs Dillishaw, Aldo, AND Mendes to all lose for anything to really happen for him.

How does Faber have more to lose? He's in a weird place in the division due to already losing a couple title shots and beating much the entire top 10. Alex has to win this fight if he wants to become a contender. If he loses he just goes back down the rankings.

This is a big opportunity for Alex and it doesn't mean much for Faber win or lose, is what I meant.

What athletic commission did they pay off to sanction this murder? Faber will steamroll him in a matter of seconds. Just how much of a favorite is Faber in this fight? 20 to 1? 30 to 1?

I'm thinking Faber at around -8000 sounds about right. Caceres was losing to a 20 year old flyweight his chances against Faber are nonexistent

Faber has way more to lose. Like you said, he is already in a strange spot in the division with his losses to champs and a loss to Canceres will make sure that he will never get a shot again so he might as well retire. Alex is only 26 so if he loses it's a fight that he should have lost on paper and really won't hurt his standing much.
