A California Congressman wants to force people to get rid of "assault weapons". He wants the government to start a buyback program and prosecute people if they don't sell the guns back for a maximum value of $1000. Many of these guns are worth more than that.

 

People like this are one of the reasons that pro gun people don't trust the government to make common sense gun laws that will cut down on violence but leave law abiding gun owners alone.

We know cops love to do no knock raids and get search warrants. They even execute them when the person isn't home.

 

To think that police aren't brainwashed is foolish.

 

It happened in lots and lots of countries before, and some of them are barbaric culturally so it wouldn't surprise me one bit if most people just bend over and let them take it.

Even if there's a hundred people that bend over and take it for every one person that says, "you're going to pry this gun from my cold dead hands", that will still be too many to make it enforceable. I'm pretty sure you know that wearing a badge doesn't make you a great shot. There's plenty of people walking around that would knock off two or three cops before they got hit.

True, the local sheriff here said he wouldn't put officers in danger to try to enforce that law. The Governor made a similar statement so most likely states would make their own laws and say **** off.

Sure, you could bury it in your backyard. But presumably there is a grace period and once that ends, you better not get caught with it or you end up with a weapon charge.

The second amendment will never go away, your country is pretty evenly split 50/50 and while it goes back and forth, there is and never will be enough support to change the constitution.

For STV, yes in some cases a raped persons best solution should be to take it, because fighting could end their lives. Its not a great solution, but some walk away and some do not. Best case would be to walk away, grab a gun and shoot the rapist, but your blanket statement has faults depending on the situation.

Look at the Midterms in 2010. People came out in droves to vote out the outspoken politicians who were for tighter gun control in (I believe Colorado). Politicians will come and go, they will steal from your wallet and pit you against each other, but your guns and your free speech are safe. It's tough to budge when you don't trust the lawmakers to be knowledgeable or reasonable about the subject. The two sides don't trust each other. The reason that they don't trust each other are because of extremists and ignorant people on each side. This guy just screwed the pro regulation group.

 

I think that mass shootings are out of control too. I have seen articles with stats that say that mass shootings aren't anymore frequent than they were 30 years ago but the amount of people shot has increased which seems crazy to me. Maybe we didn't hear about them as much or the setting changed and more of them are taking place at school?

But the fact that you and many dont understand is that gun free zones and gun laws don't work. It might be beating a dead horse but it is facts. Schools are fun free zones. It is against the law to carry a firearm in a government building, yet it still happens.

It will never happen but just for a what if scenario I think people would have a chance just because it would be like the mid-east but ten fold. You can't just start massacring everyone because other countries would step in. You can't beat foreign countries and your own citizens at the same time.

 

Instead of tens of thousands of people in a place the size of texas you have tens of millions spread across the US with countries like Russia supplying weapons. Our military is about 2 million with reserves, if 10% of the nation stood up then you have 33 million people blending in with the 330 million. It would be a long drawn out mess.

 

IMO the military would be split because some wouldn't kill their citizens, some would side with friends/family, and some would disagree with the government's actions.

probably a lot of "order followers" combined with some sort of mischaracterization of what's really going on could easily put the military against the general public tho.
