Jolldan
https://www.bjpenn.com/mma-news/daniel-cormier/daniel-cormier-doesnt-think-alexander-gustafsson-deserves-an-interim-title-fight/ In a scarce light heavyweight division and their champion off to challenge for the heavyweight crown, the top of the heap is left in limbo. Seemingly alone as the peak contender is the Swede, two-time title challenger, Alexander Gustafsson. In Gustafsson’s last crack at the title, he lost a very close back and forth war to the current champion, Daniel Cormier. Now back on a winning streak, Gustafsson is campaigning for a third title shot that will hopefully be the one that makes him a champion. But with Cormier moving up to challenge Stipe Miocic for his UFC heavyweight championship next week at UFC 226 on July 7th, it’s created a gap of time where the top of light heavyweight will be a bit quiet. Of course, this creates the potential for an interim title fight that would assuredly feature ‘The Mauler’. The idea of this isn’t something that the undisputed champion, Cormier agreed with as he said during today’s UFC 226 Media Conference Call. “It would bother me because Alexander Gustafsson does not deserve to fight for an interim title. I fought for a belt just at the beginning of the year and went up to chase something so much bigger. So, no he doesn’t deserve an interim title he fought last May against Glover Texiera and he beat Jan Blachowicz…well, that’s two years ago, he fought twice in two years. I think all this interim title sh*t gets started because [the media] ask about interim titles. Someone actually put it in the air. Don’t put that **** in the air, man.” Do you think they should do Gus vs. somebody for the interim title while he waits? Or is Cormier right?
Bezerker101
Cormier has a good point, but ufc politics always wins-out
PlatinumClegg
Cormier is right. Gus won't fight Latifi or Manuwa. He already beat Glover. Should Luke Rockhold really be in an interim light heavyweight title fight coming off a knockout loss? That would leave putting OSP in another interim title fight but no one gives a chit about Gus. It would need to be co-main to Lesnar/Rousey as a tag team against Cyborg/McGregor in order for us to not giggle at the numbers.

OmoGOAT
Cormeow should just stay at HW after he beats Stipe any way. The only fighter capable of beating him doesnt even fight anymore and thats coming from a huge Rumble fan.
stehilton94
Interim belts need to leave, just call the fight what it really is, a #1 contender fight, just start making them again, Start giving main event spots on FOX/ESPN cards to #1 Contender fights and you will have more title fights in the end as a result

skillandpower
Dude is pretty much letting his division aside to fight the HW champ so why shouldnt the 205 division have an interim title meanwhile ? Interim title is lame anyways but DC is acting like he doesnt know how the New FC works ffs
skillandpower
.. and by the way, Gus gave DC a tough fight! Sometimes I feel like DC tries to duck Gus
agtx
Daniel Cormier thinks that creating fake beef/hype behind him & Alex will make this fight pay better if it happens, keeping his options open. He cant rely on beating Stipe or Jones coming back while Alex is a sure thing.
I_Take_Roids_m8
Unlike other fights who want to win two belts, DC has defended the belt numerous times ans cleaned put the contenders. Theres nothing at 205 for him at this moment.

Jason_H.
I don't know why Cormier would even care. He's got the LHW division on a lockdown. Nobody in that division can beat him. To be honest, I think Cormier will even be more dominant as a HW. His cardio will win him most of the fights. Most of these HW's can't handle 5 rounds except for a few.

Jones killed him twice at LHW.. He has about two fights left, genius. He's wanting Lesnar after Miocic, but Stipe is going to knock his head off.

DC was beating the brakes off that pedophile in the second fight until the PEDS kicked in. Kind of funny that DC got knocked out by a guy that hasn't KOD someone in five years and DC has the arguably one of the best chins in the UFC. I had Stipe in this fight until the ****nanou fight, that made me think the fight is going to much more competitive.
StompGrind
I agree Gus isn't active enough to merit that. Who gives a fk about lol interim belts anyway. Seems like a cheap way to say you were champion one time.
