Daniel Cormier, who now owns the UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight titles, is expected to defend his heavyweight belt against monstrous former champion Brock Lesnar sometime early in the new year.

As it turns out, however, Cormier plans to defend his light heavyweight title first — before the year is out.

“Yes, I am,” Cormier confirmed in a behind the scenes video on UFC on FOX (via MMA Fighting). “As long as they don’t f*ck up my Lesnar fight.”

When it comes to potential opponents for his next light heavyweight title defense, Cormier seems to have three opponents in mind: Corey Anderson, Ilir Latifi, and Anthony Smith.

From the sounds it, he’s up for fighting any one of these men, and he will leave it to them to sort out who’s next.

“When and where, Corey Anderson,” Cormier told his FOX broadcast partner Michael Bisping on the video. “When and where, [ilir] Latifi. When and where, Anthony Smith. When and where, all of them. All of them at some point this year.”

“Take a piece of steak, put it in the Octagon,” Cormier added. “Whoever wins gets the title fight. Let’s do it like that.”

So who would you like to see Daniel Cormier fight most out of those three?

Corey Anderson?

Ilir Latifi?

Anthony Smith?

Hmm.  No one is on exactly a stellar run at the moment.  When there's no stand-out contender I always like to see a fight to decide things.  I'd make Anderson v Smith as soon as possible.  Winner fights DC for the belt.  Gus can fight Latifi and the winner of that is next.  Battle of the Swedes.

Another troll thread?

Anthony Smith has two wins at LHW, both over geezers. Latifi has two wins in the last two years, and they're both over cans.

Anderson's win over Glover is a better win than any of that trash above.

... One of those "cans" knocked Corey Anderson out cold.

OSP should get the shot.

Lightheavyweight is proving difficult for anyone to really establish some dominance pretty sure Shogun had the best active winning streak of any Lightheavyweight in the UFC top 15 on just a 3 fight win streak lol.

Latifi is on a 2 fight win streak, 5-1 in his last 6 and 3 of those were first round finishes.

Anderson is on a 2 fight win streak, 3-3 in his last 6 and he just beat Glover who was a top ranked guy.

Smith is on a 2 fight win streak, 5-1 in his last 6 all wins coming by KO/TKO and he just took out two former champs.

Of all of them I think Anderson has the weakest case also because I think that's the fight the least amount of people would want to see. It's really a toss up on want you want youth or experience. Latifi's been with the UFC for over 5 years had 10 fights for them and put in the work and realistically will probably never be closer than he is now to a title shot. Smith is younger and more exciting but he has only has two fights at this weight class.

It definitely is a hard choice, I don't think any of these names get DC that big a payday.

Did you really just say more people want to see Anthony Smith and Latifi fight for a belt than Anderson?!

Now I KNOW this is a troll thread. I'm outta here.

It should really be for the interim belt because DC isn't really taking any of these fights before Brock.

Imagine DC takes the Latifi fight. Imagine that moron somehow clips DC, and breaks his nose. Then what? What if DC fights Anderson, and he blocks a kick with his arm, and breaks it?

Man, there is no chance he fights anybody but Brock next. lol

He just wants to keep the belt to spite Gus which I think is hilarious.

Was gonna suggest the exact same two match-ups.

Latifi is one of the fights Gus has made off limits because he "trains" with him. Try to keep up with that list. It's tough, I know, but do your best.

The other is Jimi if I remember correctly. All seems pretty dumb since that means that the 1st, 3rd and 5th ranked guys won't fight each other.

It's kinda annoying how entitled Gus seemed to get after running Jones close, and if anything he's acting more entitled than ever now.  Dude won the lottery when he got a title shot against DC after getting killed by Rumble.  Should have kept his head down and racked up 3 or 4 good wins before even mentioning the title again.  It's almost 3 years since his loss to DC and he's only fought twice since.  Wally.

The division is a disaster.

  • Jones suspended
  • Cormier holding two belts
  • Gustafsson not wanting to fight anybody other than the champ
  • The 1st 3rd and 5th guys wont fight each other because there all bro's
  • Jan Blachowicz is the 4th ranked Lightheavyweight in the world (not hating on Jan he's usually fun to watch but wouldn't say he's a tip of the spear guy.)

Dana will be praying that Reyes stays undefeated and Pedro has turned a corner after his last fight putting those beginner mistakes behind him so he has someone to market in a year or two.

All three lose handily so if DC has to fight one of the 3 just ask yourself who you want to see knocked dead the most. My answer would be Anderson but he already has an awesome flappy arms KO courtesy of OSP, so now its time for that dikhead Smith to pay for what he did to Shogun

I'd say latifi but he is a generic version of romero, might as well give it to yoel for a better fight.

Osp has lost to top tier guys for the most part won 4 of 5, but is 5-5 in last 10, and would probably be a better fight than Anderson.

Gus is the best lhw contender by a lot until he fights yoel or rockhold.

Dc gonna suffer same fate as dj, champion while there are no real top contenders

  • Jan Blachowicz is the 4th ranked Lightheavyweight in the world (not hating on Jan he's usually fun to watch but wouldn't say he's a tip of the spear guy.) when a Polish guy makes the top 5, you're in trouble

so he has someone to market in a year or two .. curious to see if Reyes can step up, Pedro failef, Reyes vs Latifi or OSP -
